Finally, my argument has not been that they have to change the name. They paid $6 billion plus dollars for the team. Harris and Company can do whatever they want and they will. But playing this coy game of 'we're not going to provide a direct answer to a direct question' and settle the matter publicly is bad form and, at least for me, insulting to fans. People like to say that they've said they are open to changing the name, but the truth is, they haven't even been that definitive. They've said that they are open to discussing whether a name change should occur. And stop telling everyone how much fans and what they think matters, while absolutely ignoring one of the issues they care most about.

I think this is bad from a business perspective too. It is very possible that the team isn't selling merch because people don't want to spend good money (anything NFL branded is EXPENSIVE) on a t-shirt, jersey, bag, sweatshirt, etc. with a name on it that might be gone in a couple of years.

This could be a huge contributor to why we are nearly last in the league in merch sales. Maybe bigger than the team being lousy.

On the other hand, you could imagine lots of Snyder merch bonfires. Want to make a quick million? Sell a flammable Dan Snyder Effigy doll. Heck, voo doo dolls with a set of burgundy and gold thumbtacks might set you in a new tax bracket.

I only own one WFT popcorn bin and I told my wife to never buy anything else that says commanders on it.

I'll never support this name. Hell, I've barely supported the team itself with all the bonehead moves they've made.

I do find it interesting that a senator is requiring us to go back to the old emblem in order to move into rfk. I think that says more than we see on the surface

I’ve bought a few things with both the WFT logo on it and the Commanders logo. Weirdly I see it as being a bit of history. Maybe not history we want, but history none the less.

I’m a big F1 fan, and was a huge fan of Jenson Button in particular. Not sure if you guys follow at all, but for a few years he raced for Honda, who then abruptly quit the sport.

Thing was the designers KNEW they had an amazing car ready to go for the following season. A possible championship car. But suddenly had no engine or sponsor. Enter Ross Brawn, who bought the team from Honda for $1.

The Brawn GP team lasted only 1 season but won the championship that year. It was the ultimate fairytale sports story.

Next year they became Mercedes and that was that. I have a Brawn baseball cap from that year and it’s a prized possession.

I look at the WFT and Commanders stuff in kind of the same light. It’s a sort of memorabilia of the years of Snyders downfall. Which is a fairytale in and of itself in a way. The price we paid as fans for getting rid of the worst owner in football.

One day, when we’re the superbowl winning Washington Redwolves, I’ll look back on those items as a weird little reminder of this crazy period in the teams history.

Cause I’m a bit odd like that 😂

This is the only way I'd support commanders. He would have to be the mascot, too.

Now, you have me thinking... If we kept the name Commanders, but made our logo a cobra... the nerd in me could respect that.

Might as well call us the War Mongers if we're going to keep the Commanders name. I'll never buy anything Commanders since that still has the Snyder stench associated with it.

Al Galdi had Senator Daines on his pod cast today. Really good segment - he was saying he would not be upset with a return the Redskins name but only with the approval of the Native Americans. But he felt Washington Warriors with the old logo would be the best way to fix the wrong done to the team. He talks to Walter Wetzels grandson regularly.

Now if you look at it a bit more who did Bob Myers work for - the Golden State Warriors, it makes sense that he would be able to get this done without the warriors complaining loudly if he was involved

Isn't holding hostage what fed ex did to us to make us change the name?

Said I'd stay out of this one and I'm going to try. Carry on.

They aren't changing the name. Major sports teams don't change names and branding every few years unless the owner is a complete and utter idiot like Dan Snyder. Anyone with any marketing savvy won't change the name for at least five years, and by then we'll all be used it and there will be no point.

It's not going anywhere. I'm going to give Harris enough credit to assume he's not an idiot and he's not driven by emotion when it comes to making multi-million dollar decisions for a multi-billion dollar organization. We are the Commanders. It's time to let this go.

EDIT: I apologize if that came across as harsh. I realize we all WANT the name to be different, I just don't see any way that that happens in the real world. Frankly, the three points Boone listed in his very first post is all that needs to be said.
They will have a new name introduced when they open a new stadium. This name will never be accepted by the fan base.

Isn't holding hostage what fed ex did to us to make us change the name?
If Dan had any balls he would have told FED EX to shove it up their ass and kept the name and gotten a new company for naming rights. The company I worked for became a sponsor the year before the change of names. We did not renew this year when it ended. We informed the team we would not get involved with the team until the got a proper name and logo that the fans would support and make our money worth investing in the team, the our return on investment went to shit when the Redskins name was changed.

And yes I do think it will be Washington Warriors when the new stadium opens. With the George Allen approved LOGO used at least two games a year and either the spear or a new logo used as the regular logo. If you want to sell merch a throwback Redskins jersey for Terry or Robinson Jr or Daniels would sell like crazy

They’re all over the map. It’s been a disservice to the fanbase. Only thing I’ll criticize the new ownership group for. They deserve the criticism.
