I've resigned myself to the significant possibility he will be a Redskin. It's a risky move, but the possible upside is pretty high. If it happens I will root for him until he gives me a reason not to.

I keep thinking about all the room his speed will open up underneath for guys like Garçon and Reed, and I can't help but be intrigued.

Then I remember who I am talking about... :(

Browsing enemy territory(Cowgirls) to see their take on it...(for amusement)...

Signing him will make no difference to the Skins offense.

And I learned something new! Alfred Morris is no longer a threat because Shanny's gone! He'll come back to reality and look like the 6th rounder he was drafted as.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go all Ace Ventura and take a shower. Anybody got some gum?

I don't hate the move, I hate the uncertainty around it.

There's much uncertainty in drafting a WR too.
Especially with our history.
How many times, have we patiently waited 3 years for a drafted WR to develop his "potential", only to find out that both the draft pick, and the 3 years of waiting, were a waste.

I see it as Jackson and everything else we can get in the draft vs. draft a top WR at 34, and have to give up another starter that we would have otherwise drafted.

Having watched Jay Gruden for a lot of years, I'm absolutely positive that's what he's thinking.

Now Dan may be as giddy as a sixth grade girl meeting Miley Cyrus, but I bet that is what Gruden is trying to weigh out in his mind.

I'm still hopeful the next time we see his punk ass is when he comes to town with the other team that signs him.

That's all fine and good, but it will cost us a starting RT, other lineman or DB.

Not signing Jackson doesn't 'cost us' anything. On the other hand, breaking the bank for him at all costs could make re-signing crucial guys a lot tougher down the road. Are we gonna pay this guy more than Garcon? How's that going to go over? The only thing not getting Jackson would do is delay the rebuild. Yeah, we *might* choose to go WR with our first pick if we don't land him (although, even that is a major assumption). But it doesn't 'cost us' a tackle or any other player. It just delays filling that need.

At some point, you have to look the guy in the eye and say 'Do you want to be a Redskin or not? If so - work with us on the $$. If it's *just* about the $$, maybe you're not our guy afterall'.

it costs us a player at a bigger need for THIS season, and when it comes to Olinemen, we need to get them in here asap because Olines take time to gel. I think signing this kid is a no brainer as long as we dont break the bank. this team needs olinemen and needs them asap. this would free us up to go shotgun Oline in the draft, spend every damn pick on Olinemen and let them compete.

Personal feelings aside, it's very clear that Gruden views WR as a huge, if not biggest area of need. We wouldn't even be talking with Jackson if that weren't the case. We've already signed Roberts, but that isn't enough. And for good reason.

When Gruden was in college he broke passing records.

When he played in Arena, he broke passing records.

When he coached in Arena his teams always had the best receivers.

When he went to Cincy, the first thing he did was draft a WR. With the fourth pick of the entire draft.

Last season Cincy drafted a TE in the first round.

As a former QB, Gruden loves WRs like Shanahan loved RBs. It's what he does.

If we don't sign Jackson, Gruden will certainly have, and want to draft a WR early.

Imagine not getting another top WR......and then Garçon gets injured. Then what? Roberts is our number 1....and who is our number two? Santana? Hankerson?

He doesn't even have a choice but to take a WR. And that WR could instead be a 2nd round RT, lineman or DB. So yeah, I believe it would cost.

IF. If we could get him in here without breaking the bank, the press conference would've been over hours ago. We may well go O Line heavy in the draft. We can live with the WRs we have for another year. You guys act like we have no one - and that's not the case.

You sound like you are hyperventilating Mike. Gruden didn't do ALL those things the first 15 minutes of his tenure. It takes time. We have plenty of WRs - the possibility of Jackson being available wasn't even a pipe dream a week ago. Maybe we'll take a WR early, but I think it's just as likely we don't. We have a lot of needs, and anyone who was under the delusion we were going to fill them all in one year, well, that's just not realistic. And there are no guarantees. We could sign Jackson, and he could blow out his knee during the first mini-camp. And you know what? The season would still arrive. We'd play 16 games. And it would be fine. Odds are, we aren't going to the Super Bowl this year - regardless.

Thanks for ruining the upcoming season Boone.

Reading around the net, all's quiet...which is usually a good sign if you're trying to hammer things out.
No one should get worked up about whether he's a Skin or not...cause it's out of our control.

Just hope ABC know what they're doing.

Oh well - whatever will happen will happen. And Mike, I don't mean to discount what you are saying - I just think we need to exercise some patience. The sky will not fall no matter what happens. And while I like that the Redskins are doing whatever they are doing incredibly quietly, they are going to have a lot of fan anger/spazzing out if they fail to 'get their man' (whether all fans support the move or not). There's already a lot of anger out there and the deal hasn't officially blown up yet. I'm not sure that's the smartest way to handle this. Think if I were in PR I'd have been doing some reducing of expectations from the get go with the fanbase.

The problem is you seem to view the draft as a sure thing. Even knowing Jackson is an established WR, there's nothing to say we draft a starter at 34 if we sign him. We've drafted players far higher then 34, some said to be the best in their class at the position that have been a bust. Desmond Howard was picked at # 4, remember how he panned out. How about Shuler... picked # 3... There's more on the list, as I'm sure you know. So, signing Jackson fixes one spot, not two instantly.

The draft isn't a given, and no matter how well you think you know Gruden, and how much the media gestimate, nobody can say with any certainty we will draft a wide out at 34 if we don't sign Jackson. We won't know till we hear that ass hat Roger say... and with the 34th pick of the 2014 draft, the Washington Redskins select.....

The pressure on Gruden, and desire within Gruden will simply be too much in what many believe to be the best WR class of the last twenty years.

We can still get a RT. But there's a good chance that instead of looking at a 2nd round talent, RT, that we'll have to look at a third. And then instead of a third round DB, we'll have to downgrade to a fourth rounder. It's a chain reaction--really asking a lot of him to come through under those circumstances. Our FO would have to hit in nearly every round.

And I believe you are overestimating our WRs. We've always lacked depth in many positions. We've already made great strides in correcting that at LB and the o-line in just one FA period.

Would it even be prudent to go into the season with our current WRs? Is it possible that Hankerson isn't 100%? Is it possible that he isn't even 80%? Is it possible that Gruden already knows this?

If Garçon goes down, or Roberts goes down, what is the backup plan? Or do we just leave RG3 out to dry?

I don't even see that as an option. Which is why I believe Desean is in town. Only time will tell....but I'll bet no Jackson means WR in the second round.

Again - we CAN'T fill every hole this offseason Mike - it's not possible. Prudent has nothing to do with it. We have WRs - in fact, some pretty good WRs. Do we need a great #2 to go with Garcon? Of course. But it's still possible one of the younger cats will take that next step (be it Hank or Robinson), and we did bring in Roberts and have a hell of a young TE who will make our receiving corps look one hell of a lot better if he can stay on the field. And all the 'hype' about 'this is the best WR class in the history of WR classes!' stuff I take with a massive grain of salt. Even when there are only 2 or 3 'can't miss' WRs in a draft, invariably many DO miss, and it's some 6th or 7th rounder who catches fire. It's just a fact.

I kind of think things are falling into place, or that events have happened which actually does make it possible to fill a ridiculous amount of holes at once. To do in one season, what would normally take two.

If we do sign that D-bag, our draft could really be big.
