Personal feelings aside, it's very clear that Gruden views WR as a huge, if not biggest area of need. We wouldn't even be talking with Jackson if that weren't the case. We've already signed Roberts, but that isn't enough. And for good reason.
When Gruden was in college he broke passing records.
When he played in Arena, he broke passing records.
When he coached in Arena his teams always had the best receivers.
When he went to Cincy, the first thing he did was draft a WR. With the fourth pick of the entire draft.
Last season Cincy drafted a TE in the first round.
As a former QB, Gruden loves WRs like Shanahan loved RBs. It's what he does.
If we don't sign Jackson, Gruden will certainly have, and want to draft a WR early.
Imagine not getting another top WR......and then Garçon gets injured. Then what? Roberts is our number 1....and who is our number two? Santana? Hankerson?
He doesn't even have a choice but to take a WR. And that WR could instead be a 2nd round RT, lineman or DB. So yeah, I believe it would cost.
