Deebo only averaged 3.2 yards per carry this past season, which is a career low by far. I didn't watch much of the 49ers, so could anybody provide any insight?

I know he was battling injuries, but 3.2 YPC for a guy that was averaging over 6 YPC for his career is worrisome.

I think it has to do with McCaffreys injury. He was out and that put more emphasis on Deebo as THE running back where in the past he was one of the rbs

This year there were multiple factors at play, Deebo himself was more banged up than years past, 10x more emphasis on Deebo in the O with a lot of the other high-end guys banged up, which puts him at a significant disadvantage compared to years past; there are a lot.

My guess is Deebo wanted out partly for that reason. My expectation is this being a contract year for him, we get his BEST by a long shot, trying to make up for any down years recently and bring his value up in a big way. It may mean he is a one-year rental, yes expensive at his price tag, but... could he be one of the main ingredients in a Super Bowl run? You replace Ekeler and Dyami's catches in the NFCCG with Deebo, without a fumble, do we win that game? I know it's not that simple but I am just saying, things like this can make surprising differences if everything rolls the way you want. Here's hoping!

Would love if Christian Kirk got cut and we signed him to live in the slot. WR1 McLaurin, WR2 Deebo, WR3 Kirk

I'd definitely take Kirk, but I would put him outside as #2 and then mostly play Deebo in the slot. Deebo is known as a shifty YAC monster and playmaker, not so much a great outside WR and route runner. IMO he's a guy you use inside and try to create mismatches with LBs in coverage, etc.

I swear, this trade really shook up the Eagles fans. They're all out in force attacking the trade and trying to compare Howie and AP (and usually making themselves look dumb in the process).



Like, yes, a 1st and a 4th for a WR is not the same as a 5th, like uhh duh?

I feel like the upcoming contracts for DL when FA opens may push a team to trade for Allen. With the cap increase, the cost of Allen for next year is gonna look like a deal.

Just hope that the team hasnt promised to trade Allen before FA starts.

Guess we will find out soon enough, DB.

The tough part is, if it really is that great a year for DTs in the draft then quite a few teams may opt to go that way versus taking on a big salary. Hopefully, we get a bite though. If we don't I would rather keep him then lose him for nothing.

Agreed DW - the fact that McCaffrey's injury was so unexpected and prolonged meant that the 49ers were trying to draw up anything they could. I still think we need a bonified RB, but I also think Kingsbury will be licking his chops to design schemes to get Deebo the ball. Dude's a playmaker, no doubt. My only concern is his ability to stay healthy.

Let’s hope that we don’t extend Deebo first. The prove it deals seem to have worked out well for AP so far.

If it really ends up only being 1 year it will definitely be a factor as the trade is evaluated. For a team committed to building through the draft they have gutted a lot of their day 2-3 draft.

I hope we don’t line him up at RB ever. Use him in the slot, give him the screen touches we threw to Brown, feature him in the short passing game on routes were you can get him the ball on the move to maximise his YAC potential.

Use him on jet sweeps if you want to get him some carries. But nothing between the tackles on a straight handoff.

Sounds good to me. But you know coaches - they just cannot resist running less than optimal guys up the gut... gotta keep those defenses honest. We learned from Kliff that Quinn is a subscriber to that thinking.

But I feel confident they will use him wisely. If he gets back to peak health I think we are all going to love this pickup. He's a little pricey but it aint our money and its just 1 year. We are in win now mode.

Eh. You hit on your odd 5th round pick for depth and special teams. A lot of 5th round picks don’t make it to year 3.

I’m not terribly worried about using a 5th to take a shot on a player who almost certainly will have a larger immediate impact than any player picked in the 5th round of this draft.

before Deebo go sick he was projected for 68 catches for 1,139 yards for 16.7 yards a catch-I am not complaining

I have been overall optimistic on this move but just got really pessimistic - I am currently thinking they keep him on a 1-year prove it deal, and I think Deebo himself came here thinking to get a heavy statistical season in the books in his contract year.

In some ways that reads well... but it also reads very poorly - if we want JD and Kingsbury spreading the ball (which most of us do), how long until Deebo starts complaining? If that plays out, it will be really annoying.

I have seen multiple folks say that 'Deebo is always hurt'. Looking at his 6 NFL seasons, He's had the one season in 2020 where he only played in 7 games. But other than that, he's had seasons in which he played 15, 16, 13, 15, and 15 games. Sure, he has missed some games, but that doesn't look anything like 'always hurt' to me.

But other than that, he's had seasons in which he played 15, 16, 13, 15, and 15 games. Sure, he has missed some games, but that doesn't look anything like 'always hurt' to me.

I made this argument on another board and it was pointed out that he left several games with injuries and played hurt and was ineffective in several others So the 2 game stat is kind of deceiving.
