RWJ
The 1st Round Pick
We now know where the money that we were going to pay Jon Allen when he is traded or cut is going to. According to Keim AP tried talking 9ers into taking on Jon Allen in the deal.
I disagree, the lines need to be improved more than WR or RB (in terms of overall ability/performance, I know those positions were going to look different). The OL play was made to look better due to JD, and that is a dangerous gamble to make on his health every year, in my opinion. I think they need to improve up front if they want to compete for a Super Bowl. It's a must in the NFC East in particular. If this is on a 1 yr deal and Deebo is onboard then its an A+. My gut says there's no way Deebo wants to play with only 1 year left on his deal so we'll have to wait and see what happens with his current contract. Deebo can play when he's motivated. I still like the trade regardless if we have to give him a 3 yr deal at market value. Now we need a dynamic back and we're good on offense for now.
We can get a RB in the draft, its deep. As for the O line, I agree but free agency hasn't even started yet. This was a trade so we didn't have to wait. I'm sure they're going to address O line on March 10th.I disagree, the lines need to be improved more than WR or RB (in terms of overall ability/performance, I know those positions were going to look different). There are a lot of positives with this move. The need to justify or bemoan giving up a 5th is kind of silly guys. It is true that only about 5% (per the stats I found) of 5th rounders end up NFL starters, but a lot more do make contributions. Arguing 'we wouldn't have found a player of his caliber or even someone who makes the roster with a 5th round pick' is probably, but not absolutely right. The other thing is well - duh - you probably don't find Deebo Samuel in the 5th round, but you will find a 21 year old talent who costs you almost nothing for his first contract (vs. 17-20 million for a 29 year old).
The details kind of matter.
We just won't know how good this move was for awhile.
And I'll say something controversial. We might not be done in free agency at WR.

When you’re talking currency of assets it’s a valid conversation. You likely won’t find a player of the same caliber as Deebo Samuel in the 5th round, so the sliding scale of cost vs return is affected. Deebo Samuel at his number (which is kind of a grey area due to a void year) may be more expensive, but also a lot more valuable.
I’m also gonna say something controversial… we might still end up with a 5th round pick
