The Sky is not Falling Thread

…..and some of us may be dead before we repeat the glory years. It’s been a horrendous dry spell of decades.

No doubt its been some bad decades.

I think though even if this season ends up going south, next season they have a shot at going all the way.

As I've mentioned, am no pollyana, I was one of the most critical people here as how it felt coming into the season where I predicted a slow start. It's been even worse than i predicted but I didn't guess we'd have an insane number of injuries. But a setback season didn't seem out of the equation for me.

But as I explained at the time, I thought (and still do) that some setbacks would be good for the overall psyche of this front office, coaching staff and team.

I think they were all feeling themselves a bit too much -- had fears that they'd lose their edge for reasons i explained at the time. When a reporter asked Quinn how would it feel to be the hunted versus the hunters -- he had a good response. But it didn't feel like this team was adjusting to being the hunted.

When you watch the Bears, Cowboys celebrating beating them -- you feel that vibe that they slayed a giant. They were fired up and celebrated a bit too much IMO. I expected the Bears and Dallas to have let down games now.

I don't think other teams per se think this team are giants anymore considering how vulnerable they are looking -- but considering they were an in vogue SB pick by some and they got close last year -- I think teams really circled this one on their calender. I don't feel that this team has looked as emotionally fired up to play than their opponents among other things.

I think that might change now. Quinn for the first time seemed pissed off last Sunday. And I think it was telling when he said he was "very" surprised by how the season went. It felt like they felt like they can just coast their way through the season and lose their edge.

The other thing to keep in mind is that building a sustained winner in the NFL is not always a linear process. You might have a season sandwiched somewhere in the process where a lot of things go right, fall into place, etc etc....where it feels like as a franchise they are a couple seasons ahead of the process. That is definitely what 2024 felt like. Going into the season last year, based on the roster, I was hoping they would be fighting for a respectable .500 record with a solid December. I of course didn't know JD5 would play like he did so I was basing my expectations on a new coaching staff, a rookie QB, & a subpar roster. Moving into season two, I don't even think the roster improved by leaps & bounds but the expectation is that they elements that exceeded expectations last season would repeat that feat.

The truth is, this roster just isn't built with the kind of depth to sustain neither injury nor the starters playing below what we thought they would be. This isn't a perennial playoff contender having a down year, this is a rebuilding team in Year 2 that caught the injury bug. It happens. It doesn't change the big picture outlook to me, at all, however it does show that the building process can sometimes look like 2 steps forward 1 step back along the way.

So many terrible calls today - including the one that led to that last Dallas TD. The Giants might have actually had a chance to knock off Philly today had it not been for some of the outrageous calls.

Atlanta is a confusing ass team.

Not really, Atlanta is just bad, seven straight losing seasons and on their way to an eighth with losses to the Dolphins and Panthers. People were trying to convince themselves otherwise when they beat us, but I think we’ve seen enough now to know we were just way overrated.

Anyway this is the positivity thread so I won’t dwell on the depressing reality that this season is most likely to end in a losing record. I really do like our long term prospects with Harris, Peters, DQ, and Jayden.

Commanders record is quite different if our D is at least average. Though missing key starters, the offense had done enough to win 2 more games.

After beating us, then the Bills, I thought Atlanta was primed to make a push as a solid playoff contender, good thing I don't gamble.

Just saw the fumble on the tush push, one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. That play is bad enough without the refs blowing the call when somebody stops it.

Thought of something positive. We lost three in a row last season before we went on a seven game run to the conference championship. It’s basically the same guys, maybe they do it again.

Also, every single WC rival team lost this week. Dallas, NYG, Carolina, SF, Minnesota, Chicago, Atlanta. Only one left is the Packers and they are currently losing. If they lose it will be 8 of 8. If you want to count the Saints then it's 9 of 9 if the Packers lose.

Packers are going to win. Eagles won as well.

Eagles aren't going to be a WC team, which was my point. Unless they just start losing all their games like 2 years ago.
Step one is playing better, but right now we are 2 games back of the Eagles essentially and we play them twice. So, eh, we have it in us to make up that difference.

This is the Sky is not falling thread.

Positivity is needed.

We can do it. Will we? Stranger Things have happened. Also, Stranger Things Season 5 debuts on Netflix on November 26th.

My post about all of the other teams losing was a "the sky is not falling" post. Then the Packers won. But if we win, the Falcons, Bears, and Cowturds all lost, which means that in one weekend we have made up the one game that we lost to all 3 of those teams, in a way, because nobody anywhere expects the Commanders to beat the Chefs in KC in primetime without JD and Mahomes playing, once again, the best in the league right now. Mahomes has 11 TD passes in 4 games since Worthy came back and now he has Rice too.
