The Sky is not Falling Thread

DQ just said that he doesn't have a medical update until tomorrow because guys are still getting MRIs but he did said that Jayden looked good in his workout on Sunday and they plan for him to practice tomorrow. If we get him and Terry back Sunday then I still say that we will beat Seattle and go on a run. I'm worried that Terry restrained himself again though

To be fair, injuries happen. Sometimes at the worst times. For Terry's situation specifically the issue I see is that it seems like he is trying to play through whatever the actual injury is versus actually being healthy and coming back. Whatever is going on with him might plague his entire season if the coaches aren't willing to bite the bullet and just shut him down. (I am not stating that as a fact, just saying maybe, because the information around whatever the injury seems to be so vague).

Terry probably needs to just shut it down until he is fully healthy because if he is basically trying to play the "maybe I will be okay" guessing game every week he will likely be cleared to play, but we are going to see the issue we saw last night. He shows his value on a couple plays, but lack of being in game shape and health means he is coming off the field on third downs where he is needed the most.
Yeah I get it,, I'm just looking at the other side of things....it could just be coincidence all this happened to him after the fact,,,but I'm rolling with karma lol. But that's just me though.🤷

I think Karma punched Terry in the nuts!!

More like it punched us in the nuts.

Terry is coping.

(As an aside, if anyone gets a chance to see the Van Gogh exhibit, do it...it's phenomenal. )

I don't think the sky is falling if by the sky we mean the bigger plan and direction of the franchise. The problem is that building a sustained winner isn't always a linear line of improvement. There was also so very little worth keeping around for the rebuild that AP had to turnover 70% of the roster in the first season and a good percentage of that was merely getting rid of contracts and replacing them with short term solutions in order to try and compete in the mean time. Because JD5 turned out the way he did so soon "compete in the mean time" took on an elevated context and it sort of gave us this skewed view of the actual make up of the roster, which I would argue still isn't all that good outside a handful of positions.

Hopefully we have a competent roster by the time JD is ready to negotiate his contract. It's going to take four or five years to completely turn around what they inherited

Everything is relative. The Sky Is Not Falling because our owner is not a jerk, full stop. Beyond that, I do think he is a smart sports owner. However, even if he ends up struggling a lot, I like that he is not a jerk. I will take that part over what we had before all day, every day.

I am not sure AP had to turnover everything he did. I am starting to wonder how much improving we have done with AP+Whitt, and AP+Kingsbury. Some here have said it's possible they are obstinate with players they wanted (Lattimore? Connerly?) vs other players, regardless of performance, because they want to prove their desire for those players wasn't misplaced. I am not sure about this theory, but if true, it would be a really bad sign. It's also not clear who is at fault there, if it would be a coach or coordinator or GM, or some combination. I feel we have definitely improved in a LOT of ways with AP, to be clear, but I am just saying we may have taken some unnecessary steps back too, which is disappointing.

However, as NoCalSkins said: the improvement is not always linear. So there can be bumps and the overall vector can be pointing upwards. If the top of the food chain is better, than there is always going to be reason to hope. If anyone thinks the Patriots are suddenly much better, it may be because they took a decent team and put it behind a really good coach. That same thing could occur here, eventually. I am not saying the team has soured on DQ, but it could happen eventually.

I still generally like our draft picks. We just need more of 'em.

From the first draft, we got contributors out of Daniels (starter), Sainristil (starting nickel), Coleman (Swing tackle? Probably could have been our starter at RT.) Magee (backup lb) McCaffrey (best KR we've had in a while.m and Newton (rotational DT who flashes a bit) Still needs work at WR). In 2025, we got Connerly (starter who's struggling a bit, but has gone up against the league's best and not made a fool of himself), Troy Amos (starter) Lane (good PR. Still needs work on concentration, hands, and route running), Bill (starter)

So in two drafts, Peters has found us Five starters, two good returners, and a couple of backups. That's at least solid.

It's possible that guys like Madrano, Lane, McCaffrey, Magee, and Newton will grow into more steady contributors/starters. Jean-Baptiste seemed to have some juice as a pass rusher, but he got hurt too early to see what he really could do.

I'm super bullish on the team going forward.

The calls to fire Peters, or he did a bad job constructing the roster, or Daniels is now RGIII and a bust, and all that stuff is nonsense.

We were massively ahead of schedule last year, caught lightening in a bottle, and had a great ride. It happens from time to time, and God damn if we weren't due.

This season might be lost. But that might be as much due to the fact we're playing with half a deck more than anything else.

To be honest, the #1 thing I'm so impressed about is Quinn NEVER publicly uses injuries as an excuse. He will say it's hard to replace players, but he'll also say something to the effect of "everybody has injuries, you just have to deal with it."

I’m going to start to feel like the sky is falling if for the rest of the season we don’t start to see a Jayden Daniels that is 90% of JD from last year.

Unfortunately that may be very difficult as long as Terry is missing, but for me Jayden is by far the least of my worries. Anytime he is in the lineup we are playing with one of the very best QBs in the league

I think Daniels is going to be fine. With I think the biggest issue is he’s probably going to press and that might lead to mistakes.

Consistency is the key, but it’s so hard to develop consistency when the players around you are in and out of the lineup and you are in and out of the lineup.

I also think he is going to be fine. But I was so sure we had Mahommes/Allen/Burrows and i don’t think it’s crazy to think that Daniels isn’t going to be quite as good as those guys. We really need to step up and support him with better weapons and a better defense next year.

I’m not sure he isn’t one of those guys. He might still be.

I haven’t seen anything to indicate he isn’t.

Mahomes/Brady/Allen lose games when their supporting cast fails them.

Drew Brees was one of those guys and the saints went 7-9 3 years in a row.

I think we need to not overreact.

Have there been calls to fire AP?

I haven't seen that yet although I have seen folks criticizing a lot of his picks so far.

Anyone wanting to fire AP right now is a fool.

There is a part of the fan base that wants to fire everyone…

Not on this board, at least not that I remember, but there are a bunch of numb nuts who question everything and say somebody else can do a better job.

Most of it is the "just pay Terry" crowd. They blame him for Terry's injuries and what has happened because of it.

The pay Terry crowd reminds me of that song about clowns and jokers and we're stuck in the middle with them.
