You can’t fix size and instincts.

One would think Peters and Quinn have Harris’ trust to act without the dog and pony show.
 
I'm with Bulldog on this one. You assess the kid, and if he's a blown pick, you trade or release him. I don't know what they are seeing that tells them he is worth giving multiple games as a starter - but I don't see it, and I think it's one of the few instances where they have failed to follow their gut instincts in order to save face as an organization. He's a total bust and the quicker we move on the better imho.
 
It costs us $3.5M to pay him to watch football.

It costs us nothing more to sit him and or put him on IR with the hand surgery and let him go next Spring.

We don’t need to start him for the sake of starting him.

Agreed. But he’s probably better than several of the other players in the secondary.

Which speaks much more to the other players in the secondary than it does to Forbes…
 
Rebuilding is about continuing to churn, looking to find players where the ones at certain spots are not playing well and look to be limited physically to stick at this level.

There are no sacred cows.

No need to run a guy out there for 17 games who hasn’t looked like an NFL player since he was drafted.

Every year you see guys off of practice squads or released vets come in and provide a lift.

In a year where wins are clearly second to development no harm in being aggressive on the personnel front.

We have the time to try and find some gems rather than going with the same old same old and hoping against hope a guy like Forbes improves enough to be a mediocre player you end up releasing anyway in the next wave.
 
The Packers had him listed as an outside linebacker at 247.

I don't remember seeing him in action but I am guessing at 28 he is a career backup rush end?

Seems like a slot filler, not a guy to bring up later in the season to see if he has upside.
 
We've had a pretty vigorous debate on Davante, but thoughts on Tee Higgins? Just a rumor currently but...

 
Higgins is a guy I’d rather have than Adams. He’s younger and been very productive. I think he is exactly what this team needs on offense. If they don’t trade for him this season, they should pursue him in the offseason. He’s playing under the franchise tag this year in Cincy, so he will be a free agent in March.
 
It'd be nice, but I'm not sure if getting a good wide receiver changes the needle that much. As yesterday demonstrated, this rebuild has not reached anywhere near its finished state so I'd be leery of giving away high draft picks for anything that isn't a long term fix. That said, I'm beginning to feel about our defensive backfield now what I felt about our offensive line last year. We need wholesale change there if we're going to have any chance to compete. If Forbes was a healthy scratch (possibly because they thought there was no way he could hold the edge against Henry or Jackson) then we really have not a lot that isn't already at its ceiling. If we trade and there is a good db who can be gotten that's the way to go. Possibly a passrusher. Who knows, maybe there's another very frustrated team ready to blow it up who has a Montez Sweat type player they're willing to sell off just like we did.
 
I agree this team has a ways to go to be on top.

However, due to the state of the NFC East with injuries in Dallas, generally average play by both the Eagles and Giants, perhaps 2024 offers Washington the opportunity to arrive early as a division winner or wildcard contender.

And that's certainly worth pursuing at reasonable cost.

Trading a Day 1 or top Day 2 pick for a 30 plus year old receiver or other who costs $$$$ is not necessarily the move we should be making.

What we can do is look around at teams like the Jaguars, Titans, etc. and see if there is a younger to mid career vet there that we can pry free in a year that looks lost for them.

That player or players can then factor into our improvement over the next season or two as well as helping us in 2024.
 
I don't know if adding another teams player who may or may not fit is worth it considering the cap savings from this year can just be rolled over to next year.

Those Dollars add up year to year and can make a huge difference once they have to pay guys like Daniels.
 
I am talking about adding at moderate cost, preferably a player on rookie contract or in the final year of his deal where we can use the balance of the season as an audition.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to just stay pat and put more pressure on Daniels to make up the gap on the deficit on D and keep the team competitive in a year where we may have a legit chance to get to 9-10 wins and play meaningful games in December and January.

Some folks I think have sugar plums dancing in their heads over what monster moves we are potentially going to make with cap space in the offseason that exceeds every other team by millions.

We are going to add some quality players no doubt but you don’t find a Chris Jones or TJ Watt in free agency as a rule.

Most of our work is still going to come in the draft.
 
I would trade two 3rd rounders for Higgins in a heartbeat. His projected value that I've seen is a late 1st or early 2nd rounder for him. Like it or not, we are a contender this year and Higgins gives us a chance to advance in the playoffs. We need to take advantage of JD's rookie contract so I would prefer to go for it this year.
 
It's hard for me to think of us as a contender. I mean, I can see us as a playoff contender, but not a Superbowl contender. I just don't think our D will hold up in January.

Losing a third would probably be okay as long as we're sure we can sign Higgins to a long term deal that doesn't completely upend the cap and our ability to sign corners and other positions of need. I still think I'm far more interested in trading for a good DB or rush end then a wide receiver. Wide receiver hasn't been the problem.
 
My definition of contender is a team that makes the playoffs. We are leading our division and have a top offense. That feels like a contender to me even if the Superbowl is not realistic.

Yep, to only making the deal if Higgins is long term.

I understand the desire to look at Higgins and if Peters thinks a deal can be had there then so be it, but I don't consider that a move for this year.

The offense is humming. Like, really humming.

If we are trading for a player to make an impact this year, I think it would have to be a CB that could come in and tip the field for the defense. That or an Edge rusher.

Nothing else makes sense to me for this season.
