Opps, how could I forget that. I should write one of my famous letters to DeRon Snyder again. After the Deion piece he wrote after I hammered him, I know what buttons to push with that guy.
 
Well, I certainly don't know what the proper legal sequence would be, but...


If nothing can be gained immediately, by filing a suit right away, and we have enough time before we would pass any deadline for doing so...then...being the vindictive sonofabitch I can be at times, I would setup and prepare my case as well as humanly possible. Not giving the slightest hint of my intentions to Herr Goodell, or the other owners. Then, on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 5th 2012, Kickoff of the 2012 NFL season, featuring Mara's Giants, accompanied by tipped off media folk, I'd file my Scorched Earth Lawsuit. Stealing the NFL's, and Mara's day, and turning all the talk leading up to, during, and after the game, to the NFL losing their anti-trust exemption, etc...

After all, turnabout is fair play.
 
I would wait until after we've secured RG3 before doing anything. You have no idea what the league might do if the case is reopened and punishment is to be re administered for whatever reason.

Once the draft is over - go at it.

The damage has already been done. Our free agency has been ruined. Most of the free agents are gone. We should have ignored the cap to begin with. Then what could THEY have done ?

Who knows, maybe the NFL unwittingly saved us from ourselves. If we'd have had the cap space we thought we did, we might have been unable to resist adding all kinds of contracts that, once we find out what we have at QB, and who really can and can't play in that new paradigm, proved unnecessary.

they could review the case and void our trade with the rams to take those picks away instead of the other punishment they gave us.

i agree, it's very unlikely they'd do that. but at this point, with the punishments they're throwing around, i'd not want to tempt them.

we're lucky they didn't do that as part of the punishment. so yeah i think we should leave it alone until we get RG3, so they can't screw with that.

Thing is, here those kinds of comments generally just slide by w/o turning into food fights.

Plus, we all know Sarge is actually a secret Snyder admirer and overcompensates.

Do you think this really could have been the plan? I'm not so sure. This FO has been fiscally responsible, and hasn't handed out the mega-deals. I think what we saw this FA, outside of maybe signing a Mathis or Winston, was business as usual.

back on the topic, has anyone found any articles, or heard interviews, with intelligent people discussing possible legal ramifications form the redskins and cowboys actually pursuing this? last I heard from JI Halsell was that them pursuing this could bring a bunch of pressure down on the NFL over the collusion charges, and could even threaten the anti trust exemption for the league.

An Illinois congressman has already announced an investigation (like we don't have better things for him to work on?). I just can't imagine Jerry and Dan would go after the league that is the essence of their business that way...

IMO, that's leaning a little paranoid. It would only make the league look even worse, and strengthen our case even more, if they were to resort to that, on top of a salary cap penalty. Just doesn't seem realistic.

It may sound a little paranoid, but in reality the league is getting away with the cap penalty on a very very weak premiss already. By many accounts, we have a strong case against the league. Dam near anybody can see how the league blackmailed the players union into going along with this. Does that give the impression the league cares how they look ? They put a spin on it that Snyder and Jones are the bad guys, and give everybody a little bonus (added cap), and they come up smelling like roses with the rest of the teams.

A nice tie in is, the league said they found no proof of pay for pain bounties in DC, closed the case, but would reopen it if new info came to light. See the piece on the bounty on Brad Johnson today.... Realistically, to me the league threatening the Skins behind the scenes, as in a face to face warning delivered by one of our wonderful commissioners lackeys to Bruce, avoiding a paper or electronic trail is not out of the realm of reality. There screwing us on a verbal cautioning now....

In winning a battle, picking you ground and the timing are key. The league has the high ground right now, knowing they can screw us for years to come by taking draft picks from us. Once we draft at # 2, they no longer have the leverage, and we wind up with at least equal, if not the high ground.
 
They're not going to mess with the RG3 thing. I guarantee you, Goodell and NFL execs, having wildly overestimated their ability to reach with this kind of penalty, are scared ****less from the response it's gotten. They aren't stupid. They know that MLB got hammered for very similar practices and they aren't going to want to do anything that sniffs of reprisal or retribution.

So, yeah, you guys are being paranoid :)
