LOL... Dan Graziano agrees with you... It's hard not to be a bit worried, it's the Redskins.

I just don't want Redskins fans to start worrying that their team might be about to get fined or lose draft picks for anything that happened when Williams was there, because it's not. The only thing the NFL is angry at the Redskins about is all the money they spent against a phantom salary cap in 2010.

This article states the Cowboys will definitely appeal the ruling in some way, but makes no mention of the Redskins do so, after a much more severe penalty. I assume it doesn't mention the Redskins because, even though we plan to fight it, we're choosing to be much more discreet about it than the Cowboys ? Is that correct ?

UPDATE 1:25 p.m. ET: The league contends that the arbitration will proceed under Article 15 of the CBA, which provides for “system arbitration” by Special Master Stephen Burbank and review by an Appeals Panel.
 
Interesting. An arbitration that can void the punishment on the grounds of a procedural Technicality while skirting the collusion issue. Pretty convenient. Bluff called,face saving compromise reached to give the league an out.

But more importantly, if it doesn't address the concerns of the parties involved, doesn't preclude them from seeking relief in Federal court. They are giving Goodell and the NFL the opportunity to backpedal on this idiotic attempt to enforce an arbitrary standard without putting much more at risk. Be interesting to see how this all goes.

The appeals panel thing is something I can't help but wonder about. Who sits on it, and chosen by who ? I'm lost when it comes to the legal stuff. Could the panel be stacked against us ?

At this point I really hope an arbitrator/independent counsel is brought in to investigate this.
 
Yep. Mara can laugh off collusion all he wants, but that's pretty serious stuff they're messing with. If the NFL is smart, they will take these procedural issues as an excuse to drop this entire cluster-eff. If Mara keeps running his mouth, that will only piss off Danny and Jerry more, and that won't end well for Mara. God-dell needs to get in Mara's face and get him to shut up.
 
Florio has another update and blasts Mara. Blasts the league too.

My question is who employs Burbank? The quote below makes me think he is an independent entity, but I have to wonder who his friends are.

"In November 2002, a federal court appointed Burbank special master of the National Football League. In that role, he resolves certain categories of disputes between the NFL Players Association and the NFL Management Council under a consent decree and collective bargaining agreement."

I'm not sure John Mara should be talking

PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Don't get me wrong. I'm grateful to New York Giants owner John Mara for stopping Sunday afternoon in the Breakers lobby to talk to a few of us about the salary cap penalties against the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys. He didn't hold back, and as you can see if you scroll through this blog's timeline, we got plenty of good material out of it.

But in the grand scheme of things, when we sit down to talk about the right and the wrong of this whole situation, there's very little right and a whole big pile of wrong, and the defiant stance Mara took Sunday afternoon made that pile much bigger.
