Winter Weather Forecast/Thread, 2013-2014

6-7" of fresh snow on the ground here today, and temps are heading back to the negatives tomorrow. Hard winter for sure.

Five inches or more for now. Thinking that it would be no more than eight inches though. Need two more sets of short term model runs to be sure.

And here comes the snow. Watching the radar now and it will creep into this area and well north of Memphis in the next few hours. looks like it will give us three or four inches before ending by sunset tomorrow. Sending it your way east coasters.

But...

Many areas are going to have a nice warm up later this week. A long term pattern change is coming for a few weeks - maybe the rest of winter.

What about Houston? I'm sick of this cold, nasty weather!!!

Promise? Do I need to send a deposit of some kind? I'll do it, just tell me where and how much.

My current view...

boone taking pictures with his camera while driving in a blizzard

;)

just teasing you :)

we sublet office space from one of our IT clients and they do a lot of work for FEMA. You'd think the world was getting ready by the way everyone's reacting around here. :)

Took me 3.5 hours to get home. I'd probably still be on that road, but turned off a side road and took backroads all the way home with my son giving me directions on the phone. Pretty bad storm for these parts...

Glad you're ok. You're in a Toyota now, right? Is it 4x4?

Yeah...I don't know what people were thinking waiting until it hit and then trying to get home with little 2 wheel drive vehicles. There are some very steep roads to traverse even on highways in this part of NC. Right after I took that pic, I passed two semis coming the other way that were stuck halfway up the hill, tires spinning, jackknifing, they're not going anywhere for a couple days. And it's a two lane highway. Sheesh! I didn't have much problem other than sliding in a couple spots - it was just the other drivers...

It's comforting (or the opposite of comforting?) to know that Houston doesn't hold a monopoly on stupid drivers.

Interesting watching the scenes playing out in the Carolinas. Looks just like Atlanta from a couple of weeks ago.

are you implying a Prius would have issues in this weather?

I have a better one for ya: drove up to DC yesterday. I get back on 64 to Norfolk and the traffic is backed up for miiiiiiiiiles. the braintrust had shut down Eastbound traffic through the Hampton Roads bridge tunnel - at rush hour...on a week day - and there was an accident in the other underwater tunnel in the area (Monitor Merrimac). it took 3.5 hours to make a drive that should have taken 20 minutes. a man-made disaster. whoops I forgot the weather is all traceable to man-driven global warming. so you got me there too!

on the plus side you got to spend some quality time solving a problem with the help of your son :)
