Winter Weather Forecast/Thread, 2013-2014

Let's hope there is a foot of snow that falls on the stadium within hours of the game! I hope it's as bad...if not worse than the ice storm fiasco in Dallas! I just hope no one is injured. ;)

I want it to force a game day/time/venue change.

More likely, it will just be typical shitty weather. Cold, and too windy for any meaningful passing game.

It's a "play in your own shit" stupid idea, that I hope costs the NFL, and NY, millions of dollars, and tons of scorn & ridicule.

And more than anything else, I hope Mara is in his box and the camera pans on him with a big, "This ****ing Weather Sucks!" look on his face!

Still looking ahead to the SB with below normal temps, but a bit warmer on the latest model runs. Still a small chance of precip that could fall as a cold rain and change to sleet or starting as sleet to a change to light snow.

Interesting article...

U.S braces itself for coldest month of the century | Mail Online

And the latest update on the SB...

There is still a chance of precip and if that forecast holds, then it would start as a cold rain, rain/snow mix, freezing rain, or sleet. As it gets colder during the game, the changeover to snow could happen. Temps for now are forecasted to be at about 36 degrees at kickoff and then it will drop from there. More to come as we go along.

We got 12" of snow last night and today. Now the cold sets in, and more snow this upcoming week

This forecast still holds. No changes from yesterday. As we get closer, the shorter term models will start to verify and produce much more accurate forecasts. See you as we go along.

Watched some of the NHL game at Yankee Stadium today. Those folks didn't look like it was a lot of fun. I'm guessing the pampered folk who attend Super Bowls are in for an awakening.

Good thing the NFL has ruled out Miami because they are afraid of a little rain.

New update this evening on SB weather.

The trend away from precip continues and it looks like the game could be dry, but chilly. Start of the game looks like partly cloudy and a temp of about 39F. Temps will drop to near freezing by the end of the game.

Daily updates will continue until kickoff.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

For those who live in the gulf region, the southeast, and mid-Atlantic:

A winter storm is underway and it will affect many states. Along the gulf coast of Texas to Florida, there will be snow, sleet, and ice. If you are traveling in this direction today, be advised that conditions will worsen from west to east (winter weather potential is stronger the further east you go along the gulf). By tomorrow, conditions will improve. A general one to three inches of frozen precipitation is expected.

In southern central Mississippi, central Alabama, central Georgia, South Carolina, and coastal southern North Carolina, a general two to four inches of snow and ice is expected from this morning through Wednesday morning with a progression of southwest to northeast. Travel is not recommended to places like Hattiesburg, Montgomery, Atlanta, Macon, Columbia, Charleston, Fayetteville, Raleigh, and Wilmington.

In central to south central Virginia, a general one to three inches of snow is expected later today and into early Wednesday morning. Overnight travel is not recommended.

Along the Outer Banks and coastal sections of North Carolina, snow totals from late this afternoon, evening, and early Wednesday could total four to eight inches. Travel is not recommended until Thursday at the earliest.

Coastal Virginia is in the crosshairs for this storm and totals in Southside Hampton Roads will reach six to ten inches - with a few spots in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach (in the more southern sections and along the immediate coast) reaching twelve inches. Heaviest accumulations will occur from late afternoon and through the overnight hours. Travel is not recommended until later on Wednesday at the earliest.

The Delmarva Peninsula and extreme southern New Jersey will see amounts from two to seven inches - more to the south and less to the north. Snow will begin by early evening and last until late morning on Wednesday.

That is a lot of ground to cover with this "Southern Slider". Frigid temps continue to plague the eastern two-thirds of the nation, but it should be more seasonable by the end of the week for most locations.

Looks like it missed Houston, but they closed the office last night anyway! Woot!

Back at work after my "snow day" yesterday. I heard they were calling for the Outer Banks to get like 15"? Did that happen? I know New Orleans didn't get much weather from my friends out there.

This storm was interesting. The bulk of the snowfall rolled through around 3am, even though snow began falling 11 hours earlier, and ended 4 hours after the bulk. That being said, the snowfall totals varied drastically in the span of a few miles. My neighborhood appears to be the hardest hit. I measured in multiple areas around the neighborhood, around my house, etc. I have a few large wide open fields to measure in as well, so that made it easy. The average measurement around here was 11.5". My cousin lives off the same main road I do, and she is only 3 miles away. She got 8". My sister, who lives 11 miles away in Chesapeake, got 6". Family up in Portsmouth got 4"-8" depending on their neighborhood, and my boss got 7" at his house, less than two miles away from me. I have never in my life seen such drastic differences in such a small radius.

I took my truck out and got to finally use the 4WD for snow for the first time. After the storm last week, VDOT and the city of Virginia Beach did a phenomenal job clearing the roads. They were clear the next morning. For this storm, I am pretty sure they ran out of money, because the snow on the major roads this morning was still nearly a foot deep. There wasn't a soul on the roads anywhere at 10am, I have never seen it like that in my life. I love it.

On a side note, snow cream is delicious, and getting to make it for the second time in a week is something that's never happened here. But I'm a greedy snow whore, I still want more.

Edit: Two weeks in a row I got heavy snow for my day off. The added bonus is this week, my boss said we will likely miss a couple of days. Fine by me, I'm salaried, and the company's make-up day is a work day for me anyway

OBX had a general four to eight inches - more to the north and less to the south.

Around Hampton Roads, it varied from six to ten inches - depending on location. The forecast for nearly every area was accurate for a Southern Slider. They are tricky to predict. For now, a warming trend for most of the country to more seasonable temps or perhaps just a tad below normal, but much better than recent weeks. It's back to the cold soon, but enjoy the better temps in the coming days.

Super Bowl update. Looking more and more like it will be dry with cool temps - around 40 to start the game and dropping to near freezing in the fourth quarter.

SB update.

Wanted to wait until all of the 0z model runs were completed and it verifies more of the same - the warming trend continues. No precip is expected and the temp will be at about 47 at the time of kickoff. Temps should fall to just above freezing when the game ends. Not the snow or nasty weather some wanted, but weather will not be an issue.

How funny that Herr Goodell had snow fall at his state of the union yesterday after getting the all-clear on Sunday's forecast.

What a douche that guy is.

Hey Ken, I keep hearing rumors about a blizzard coming in the next week or two. I'm hoping that's crazy talk. Any thoughts?

Well, a few of the most recent models are suggesting that it is a possibility, but not all. Down here, we are expecting four shots of wintry weather over the next twelve days, but some chances are better than others. I'll stay on top of it.
