The 2025 Draft Thread

His versatility and possibly getting him in the 2nd round and possibly slipping to the early 3rd make him enticing to say the least.

Be surprised if its the third but could see him falling to the mid-2nd range.

Some of the latest mock drafts have him falling to the 3rd but I agree, I think he goes in the 2nd and I think he could last until our pick at #61 save we don't trade it as part of the package for Hendrickson.

Some still have him late first. Feels like early 2nd but will see.

I am hoping for a trade down if Banks, Conerly, and Zabel are not there. Best case scenario is all three are there and we could trade down a few spots. If somehow we could get Jackson in the mid second and a RB we would be in good shape. We need to fill edge and CB in free agency along with resigning Lucas and getting some depth on the offensive line- J Moore, Becton or Hernandez. Becton, of course, would start. If a DT like Ford is available in FA, he would be a great addition. Will post a list in a bit

Man, just looking at the TE class. I take it back. My wish list would be Elijah Arroyo Miami TE. The dude is a gazelle out there. What a weapon he could be.

If you're a team needing a Joker TE, they should be salivating. I've looked at a few dudes but the sense I get is not many are going to be prolific blockers but damn can these guys move. Really impressed thus far.

Someone pointed out Arroyo has an injury history a couple months ago during TE talks and indeed he unfortunately looks a bit like Erick All in that regard.

He's not off my board, BUT I do think there are at least 79 players ahead of him in this draft due to injury concerns.

Hmmm

I wonder what team is gonna integrate an AI model into its scouting department first.

Feed the AI a few thousand hours of existing NFL players of various levels, then show it college players, and see how well it can predict future success.

The value of the AI would likely be less in how good it was at projecting, but rather at how much data it could process.

Personally be shocked if that is not already happening. Data analytics has become the norm in most top professional sports front offices.

Regarding Simmons and ACL vs Patella tendon, I have a few thoughts. Return to play data says an ACL is more likely to shorten a career and a patella tendon to end a career. A patella tendon is also more likely to decrease performance after return.

But, a lot of that data is on run/jump athletes. Patella tendonitis is called, “jumper’s knee”, for a reason. This isn’t as evidence driven, but I think it’s less likely that a patella tendon rupture is going to affect a kick step, bend, anchor, hand play, etc. also, if Simmons is going to have a workout before the draft, then teams are going to have a pretty good idea about what kind of recovery to expect.

Also, and this is a major difference, an ACL is very likely to lead to degenerative change in a knee regardless of whether it’s reconstructed. Anyone that tears an ACL is about 5 times as likely to develop arthritis in that knee. Meaning, if Simmons makes it back from his patella tendon rupture and looks good, he should stay good. He shouldn’t be plagued by knee pain and swelling and worsening symptoms over time.

I’d be fine with Connery.he just has a peak of top 15 tackle in my eyes, which is great for the 29th pick. Simmons if he makes it back, could be a real anchor.

Mbow has 32 inch arms. I have to think they are looking at him as a guard. No?

I love Woody Marks. He has instant acceleration and is a great pass catcher. To me though, he is an Ekeler replacement, not a Brian Robinson replacement. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I just don’t think it’s what everyone has been clamoring for.

Can anyone speak to our interest in Kyle Williams? I dont understand why we’d be interested in him vs a guy with size/length, or a guy with deep speed. To me, Jaylin Noel or a Jayden Higgins would both seem to offer something that better complements what we already have, and also look like players that could be a true WR2, as Terry and Deebo age. Is it that Williams is likely to be available later?

I agree with all of this

- I don’t think Simmons ultimately makes it to 29. The fact that he is going to work out predraft means he and his team are confident he will do well

- I agree with you regarding Conerly’s ceiling. My take is even if he becomes a Braxton Jones tier LT, that is a good outcome in terms of value for the #29 pick. (The Chiefs would kill for this)

- Don’t get the Mbow interest even at guard. I thought they wanted their guards bigger

- We really need a home run hitter at back. Neither of the guys we have now are that. I think Brashard Smith is the most interesting back in the draft. He is unique and would be fantastic as a #3 guy to start given his prowess as a return man

- I wouldn’t shed a tear if we punted on taking a receiver in this draft

I could see a crew of McLaurin, Deebo, (and a re-signed Noah or OZ) being effective. Even better if Luke takes a step forward which should happen. After all, not only is Luke a hard worker think how much growth happened between Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back.

Yeah, but we already know who his father is…

But I’m with you - Luke’s got a ton of room to grow, and strikes me as the type that takes coaching really well and works hard to apply it.

Well, I was a bit too enthusatic about the TE group, which is good but a pretty big drop-off after the top 5 IMO

Top 20 TE’s

Colston Loveland Michigan *More juice as a pure playmaker to my eyes
Tyler Warren Penn State
Elijah Arroyo Miami
Gunnar Helm Texas
Terrance Ferguson Oregon
Orande Gadsden Syracuse
Harold Fannin Jr. Bowling Green *I’d be wary of taking him too high question his ability to match production at NFL level numbers equal elite athlete but does not have the wiggle or pop of the top guys to my eyes
Mason Taylor LSU *Bit overrated to my eyes but understand the traits upside
Jake Briningstool Clemson *Underrated
Luke Lachey Iowa
Thomas Fidone II Nebraska
Mitchell Evans Notre Dame
Caden Prieskorn Ole Miss
Joshua Simon South Carolina *Sleeper potential
Jalin Conyers Texas Tech
Jackson Hawes Georgia Tech
Moliki Matavao UCLA
Brant Kuithe Utah
CJ Dippre Alabama

Tied: Gavin Bartholomew Pittsburgh *Benjamin Yurosek Georgia *Underrated *Carter Runyon Towson *Sleeper potential *Tre Watson Texas A&M *Untapped potential, underrated in all aspects *Anthony Torres *Great blocker, sleeper potential *John Michael Gyllenborg Wyoming

The Tunsil trade makes me feel like a trade back from 29 is even more likely unless a perfect pick is there.

You've got 29, 61, Texans 4th, and then nothing until the 7th.

Trade back into mid 2nd and grab a 3rd this year and maybe a 3rd next year in the process. If you, for example, like all of the top 12 edge players, and 5 of them are left at 29, why not trade back to like 43 and grab one of them while adding picks.
