That 42=yard checkdown reminds me of that clip when the Giants' coach was interviewing Daniels predraft and he asked what play he would call...

Okay, Daniels bomb didn't make it to the endzone, but it led to one. Still, that instinct to go for the throat if the defense dares to go after him is not unwelcome. For so long, I remember the response to a zero blitz being a swing pass to the running back, a sack, a curl or some equally short escape throw... or a QB running for their life.
 
I find it hard to muster much empathy for Griffin. My general take on him, having bought in early on to his 'schtick' and supposed persona, is that he doesn't have a genuine bone in his body. It's all about Robert all the time and the reality of who he is stands in sharp contrast to the guy he purports himself to be. I'm sure he will land on his feet. Despite the character flaws, he's a smart guy and his football insights are pretty interesting. He gets a reaction no matter what his take, like Jim Rome, Colin Cowherd, and many before him, that's largely what social media-driven media employers are looking for. I'm actually a bit surprised that ESPN cut him loose. I don't think he will have a lot of trouble finding work.
 
You could see it coming for RGIII. He obviously did, too, given the way he was trying to garner attention.
 
I find the white jerseys with the red dots to be the most egregious myself. I don’t mind the black as much. The black helmet with the W right on front is stupid though.
 
Happy to see Sam Howell doing well in Seattle. I hope he finds a home. I still think what we saw at the beginning of the year showed he had something. Not sure any QB could have survived the way this team fell apart around him.
 
I think Daniels will be pretty good this year, but will have more than his share of rookie troubles and gaffes. I think people are setting their expectations too high, having been spoiled by CJ Stroud and Justin Herbert. He'll be better than Haskins or other obvious busts, but it won't be like 2012, and that's okay. If it takes a year or two for him to hit his stride, that's actually quite normal.
 
I genuinely despise the black unis - they make us look like an XFL knockoff of the Steelers.
Reminds me of Zorn's dumbass press conference about representing the red, yellow and black.
 
Yeah, our colors should never be black. We're B&G not Maroon and Black.
 
I'm not seeing anything so far this preseason to make me think we'll have a good year. Just feels like a lot of the same things playing wise but with different coaches.
 
I think the folks like Riggotoni saying we should all temper our expectations are smart. They've almost completely rebuilt the organization and 1/3rd of the roster or more is new here. Add in a rookie QB and who knows what to expect? I don't think preseason gives us much clue either way. I will say that I think we are clearly in a better position with Daniels under center than we've been in awhile. And I think Kingsbury knows how to get production from an offense. Those two things, and the fact that the defense with much more competent coaching and an influx of veteran talent has almost got to be significantly better in 2024, gives me hope.
 
I don’t think that Rodriguez, Kazmir Allen, and Mathis make the 53. I have a sneaking suspicion that Forrest and Reavo don’t either.

I kindof disagree. I think what we've seen is a more functioning offense than we've seen in years. The last OC we had that could actually draw up and call plays was Boy Wonder Sean McVay. When he left, Jay took over. Jay is an idiot and a bad play caller. Then there was Scott Turner. Who, granted, had to call plays for an XFL backup QB, but all he did was run the same 3 running plays over and over on first down and then pray. I had a lot of hope for EB because quite a few of the coaches off of the Reid tree have proven to be good OCs and play callers, but EB wasn't one of them.

We've had drek since 2016.

Even though it was 3 drives in preseason, each drive ended with a scoring opportunity.

I think that points to positive signs.

On the defense, I really think when Payne, Allen and Wagner start playing, that will make a difference.

We'll see. I am not predicting SB. But I think they should be a functional team which is competitive. I think the biggest issue is going to be when they don't get pressure, I don't think the CBs will be able to hold up. They're going to have to get pressure, and they're going to have to gamble at times to do so, and when you gamble, from time to time, you lose.

Peters is going to have to fix the secondary (again) next off-season. He just couldn't do everything in one off-season.

He was decent his rookie year but awful since. He even admitted he’d lost his confidence. Smart to get something for him before his value was totally gone.
 
This move tells me they absolutely do not value him.

I was hopeful he could get it around, but they're seeing him daily. I can't imagine they decide to take a reduced cost of him like that if they're not very confident it's not going to bite them in the ass later.


I'll keep myself firmly in the 'i'll let them fail before i get upset' camp, but this one is surprising.
