Random Commanders Thoughts

We need to do whatever we possibly can to set Jayden up to succeed.

Adding a weapon like Aiyuk would do that.

Removing multliple early draft picks as well as $30 mil from the salary cap wouldn't do that.

There in lies the debate, which part of the balloon should we squeeze? Personally I'm not in favor of giving up what we would need to give up AND paying Aiyuk what we would need to pay him, especially when you what the free agent market of WRs is going to look like after 2024

Ultimately some of these guys are not going to hit free agency, but there are A LOT of names up there, which will drive down the secondary WR market. Aiyuk is not a no. 1 imho. He's a 2a.
I would not give up more than say a 4th and 6th or a 3rd.

as MikefromOH said, the Jason Wright period is over. He has moved out of Team President and into an 'advisory' role, will not remain with the team after the end of the 2024 season.

This should be its own thread.

Not really a new thought, but I was thinking about Peters and Quinn today and it occurred to me that for YEARS we've been saying that this team is upside down. We kept going with the coach-centric model and leaving the GM or front office as the secondary power. Now, one benefit of not getting our first choice (or perhaps second given how late we were in coaching selections) is that there is no question that the GM is the top of the pecking order. At the very least, there is no doubt that the GM picked the coach and the coach did not pick the GM.

Well hope that they can turn things around. As also that with a new coaching, new owner, and it seems hopefully a better attitude in a better place. A winning season in return.

I don't think any of the available coaching candidates were going to have the kind of authority Rivera did - with maybe the exception of Belichick - and he was probably never a really serious candidate for that reason. I think Adam Peters is an alpha male. A very friendly, nice, gregarious alpha male, but an alpha male. But yeah, your overall point stands. It's kind of great to be back to a more traditional power structure especially since they seem to be focused on collaborating and getting everyone's input on big decisions.

Eh, all the Jay years were not coach centric, nor the Zorn years.

Really, all the years were Dan-centric because even when he had a coach-centric approach, he overruled the coach at times.

The exception was Gibbs II, and probably most of Ron because he was checked out and either fighting to keep the team or selling the team.

Apart from Marty who basically threw him out of the building, but that didn’t last.

If you're planning on attending the game in TB, be prepared for sticker shock, the Bucs aren't playing around about generating revenue this year.

Already have tickets and parking pass for the game. My parking space is in lot 14VIP - seems to be convenient to stadium and could be a good location for those inclined to tailgate……

Still a miracle he kept his leg

And he PLAYED on that thing in 2020 and was by far the best QB we had.

Ron wasn't a great coach for us overall, but props to him that he somehow got that team, with a combination of Haskins, Kyle Allen, Smith, Haskins into the playoffs while battling cancer, the pandemic, social injustice, Dan's workplace misconduct stuff and a swarm of locus into the playoffs.
