Random Commanders Thoughts

I agree with that. I don't think Sam Howell would have become Daniels' like if we kept him, but I do believe with better coaching and some support he could have been Baker Mayfield like. I'm pretty happy with how things turned out, but if we had won a few more games and our pick was around ten I would probably have argued for developing Howell and drafting a LT.

At number 2, you roll the dice and getting someone who could be great. I think Howell could have become good.

I’m sure you’ve all seen on social media the last few weeks videos of fans chanting “Let’s Go Redskins “ or singing “Hail to the Redskins “ either during games or after wins.
I wonder if ownership sees or hears this and if it gives them any pause when it comes to the name?

Hate to say it - if this team finishes up the way it started, it’s a reason to keep the name.

If everyone’s excited and the stadium is full and merchandise is selling then they won’t want to rock the boat. Name change is costly - and no matter what they do/pick there will be some % of people that are upset.

I thought this from the jump but ironically being wildly successful may create a situation where they’re not willing to go through everything a name change entails :(

The cost of a name change is chump change. I hear that all the time as a barrier. There are a lot of barriers - but cost is not a serious one. You're probably talking a million or less (and when you paid 6.5 billion for the team, that's truly a drop in the bucket. The biggest barrier to a name change remains the new ownership groups fear that they'll pick a new one, and the fanbase still won't like it.

I do agree that the more success the 'Commanders' have, the less likely a change is to occur. That sucks.

Also - heard many people discuss this over the years on podcasts but… and don’t shoot the messenger here…

This org missed out on the generations that are about 40 years old and below. I’m about to turn 40. I grew up in the DC area. Almost everyone I grew up with picked a different team to be a fan of.

The name thing really applies to the older generations. Im not sure that audience is the ownership groups target. I think the younger people are the target. As such that makes the name issue a bit different than it is for the older group.

Edit: just to be clear I hate the name, never wanted it changed, and my preference would be for them to just be Washington and “retire” Redskins if they can’t use it. So I’m not exactly thrilled to believe what I typed. It is what it looks like to me though.

I’m sure that they hear it. I don’t think it will result in an attempt to return to Redskins.

That is absolutely a valid point. Om has made this point as well. My only counter to that mindset is - Commanders is a terrible name not just because the 'Get off my lawn' generation (hand raised) that grew up as Redskins fans rejects it, but because no one knows what exactly it means or represents. One of the reasons that the team has struggled so mightily to create great uniforms and swag is that there is no real identity associated with the current name. It's vaguely military, but the team seems to even shy away from embracing that. If you want to name a team to celebrate the military, there's a ton you could do. Highlight a different military unit at every game, wear that unit's patch on the uniform for the game. Let former members of that unit into games for free, highlightcelebrate the unit's history at halftime, make the alternative uniform camouflage, there are just endless possibilities. Of course, celebrating the military is in and of itself controversial in today's society, so the team only tiptoes up to it. Our logo is a letter. Because no one knows what a 'Commanders' logo should even look like.

It's just BAD. Most fans know it. The Front Office and Owners know it. Everyone knows it. Will we all die a slow death if they don't change it? Of course not. We'll accept it because we have no choice. But it will always have the stank of forced change, Dan Snyder, and Jason Wright on it.

I think if they moved to something the bulk of fans would embrace, such as Wolves or Warriors, it would be loudly cheered and we could move forward with really cool logos, uniforms, and a fresh identity. I have no idea if it's even a real possibility at this point.

I don't see how anyone can watch JD play and then watch Williams and say he'd have success here. He's made bad decisions and looked like a rookie QB all year, including yesterday.

Daniels looks like a 6 year pro in comparison.

Daniels had an unbelievable 96QBR yesterday, Williams had an 18QBR.

It's just not even remotely the same thing.
Look at how many times the Bears (and Broncos) ask their QBs to throw. Now, not playing from behind a lot makes a difference. But, for every time I get frustrated that we run the ball into a stacked defense. This team is ridiculously balanced. Daniels has been a total hero in the biggest moments, still. He's not throwing it 40 plus times a game. Only twice he's thrown more than 30 times. Williams has attempted over a games worth more of passes than Daniels, and they had a bye week.

This^^^ all day long.

Just what in the hell does burgundy and gold have to do with a Commander? How do you shoehorn those colors into that box?

Anybody remember the draft a couple of years ago where the league had a logo of this guy in a hat and uniform that was burgundy and gold? Think Ralph the doorman from the Jeffersons but in a burgundy and gold outfit. Horrid.
No matter the change, Hail to the Redskins isn't going anywhere until the majority of this board and fans like us, age out and die.

I think they tried to change the colors. They introduced this black theme. I actually like those - but as a one game a year kinda thing.

Speaking of younger generations
I see a lot of kids at my kids school rocking team stuff. And teachers. It is definitely enjoyable to see people caring and paying attention again.

I've found some old Redskins stuff to buy but still won't be purchasing any Commander crap. I don't plan on it either so hopefully there are enough of us for them to still want to find a new name for the team.

Here is a winning stat. Oh...and 1933 was a really long time ago.

You should see my Redskins card collection! LOL!

I mostly just got random stuff off eBay. Redskins shot glasses, coffee cups, ball caps, towels etc.

I had forgotten Perine was still in the league. Now he’s dropping passes and falling down for the Chiefs. I’m sure idiot Jay Gruden still thinks he’s the bees knees.

Happy Election Day to those that participate.
