Quinn had some high praise for him in today's press conference especially after moving him inside.
 
And Quinn from his Dallas days knows Cosmi well.

Pretty confident this is to elevate Hartman to have a 3rd Qb. Can’t call up Emergency QB mid game from the PS anymore, they have to be on the 53, even if ‘inactive’
 
I hope that’s untrue. In game, I’d rather call on Luke McCaffrey as an emergency situation than have four QBs on the active roster.
 
They aren’t going to carry 3 QBs on the game day roster if that’s what we are talking about
 
No, what I’m saying is that unless they IR Marriota or cut him I don’t want a fourth QB on the roster. I don’t care if He is active or inactive. For one thing, if we get Down to the third QB in a single game that player isn’t going to win the game. For another, it’s just horrible waste of a roster spot.
 
Mariotta will simply be inactive. I would guess that the open roster spot would be used on bringing up a DT if Newton is a no go tomorrow.

That’s my guess as well. This is more about Newton’s injury and having another backup DT.
 
Newton's status concerns me. The rest of the league seems to have zeroed in on the DTs previous injury to the left foot and passed on him in part because the injury could be a sign of structural issues, too much weight for this body type to carry at this level.

Now the right foot had the exact same injury. And he's been out a pretty long time coming back from the second injury.

His draft bio for those of us amateurs trying to catch up on 1,000 college players coming out showed remarkable quickness and playmaking ability. At the time a high #2 pick looked like a mild steal but in retrospect sometimes its what doesn't end up in the PFF and other evaluations.

Since some teams did pass on him because of the foot injury, I am wondering now if a rebuilding team like Washington with two quality starting defensive tackles should have just passed on Newton and let another team with a greater tolerance for risk/reward take the gamble.

There were starting quality WR and CB available early in Round 2 that really could have helped us.

Mariota has been largely invisible since coming to DC. Just not much from him or about him.
 
The season hinges on Daniels anyway. Mariota was never going to matter.
 
I’ve heard a lot about his mentorship of Daniels. I imagine that’s the extent of their focus, it was never really about anything on field.
 
Having him around clearly has a level of value, as they have not been bias at all about their waiving players. There must be a reason.
