That’s true. But we forget, most of these guys have wives, kids, etc… pulling up roots for a potential 1 year gig isn’t very attractive.

In our minds

For them... they usually have been coaches their whole lives... it's a way of life. We put stock in players 'not wanting to relocate' all the time and they do it. Teams have people dedicated for finding them a place to live, organizing a moving company, and doing the majority of the work. It would also not shock me if the families are accustomed to having a 'home' where kids and wives live while coaches are essentially living with the team. Whether they're in Miami, Washington, Vegas, or whatever...

This is not to say it doesn't have an effect, but when we're talking about the money these guys make... a lot of the restrictions WE have... they dont

I'm not sure why any Redskins fan would want Jay gruden back. He was as bad as Turner and it was his undoing in the end.

I am also curious about Kingsbury. He could be coming here to eventually replace Rivera, too.

It’s not a normal situation. This is more likely than not only a guaranteed gig for a single season. How many folks want to uproot their family (or be separated) for that? I’m not saying the answer is ‘no one’. But it’s not an especially attractive scenario.

He’s always been a good OC. Not Head Coach. OC. He made Andy Dalton a good QB in Cincinnati.

And it’s not about ‘wanting him back’ it’s about who can we get as a 1-2 season rental who actually can perform better than the guy we fired.

I don't agree. He wasn't a good OC. He has a good head coach and stud players around him in Cincy and that helped him. When he was left to run it all he failed. I don't want a retread that burned bridges on his way out while threatening to fight players anywhere near here. We are dysfunctional enough without going back to the psycho ex

He took the Bengals offense from 18th in the league in points to 6th in 3 seasons. Not really interested in debating you as you’ll just discount anything that doesn’t fit with your position.

Wow, that was very nice of you. Thanks.

I'll be sure to just agree with you even though I think played harder for Marvin Lewis and the players already on the team than they ever would for him.

You're absolutely right, Boone.

I think there will be interest by established ‘good‘ coaches…once the opportunity for better situations disappear. Coaches are, by and large, in a mercenary-like profession and accustomed to chasing the next best job.

The truly talented will be kept by their current teams or, if currently unemployed, compete for the best opening they can. After that they will look for the next best chance. Washington falls in the final group. This will take a while unless there is someone looking for a bridge position for whatever reason.

The only thing I will add about Gruden is that he would not have been hired as a HC if he wasn’t on the radar due to his previous work.

I thought even Snyder isn’t that stupid…but then I flashed back to Jim Zorn. 😑

How can we not be at the bottom of any vacancy list given the ownership and HC status? Some will be interested for the reasons you guys have well identified. But it is the least desirable situation imho.

The context of the whole Gruden suggestion is that we may find ourselves hard pressed to attract someone better than Scott Turner (which is the only point in firing him).

I don’t want Gruden. But quite possible he will be one of the few options willing to take the gig who has shown he can do the job at a high level.

I hope I’m wrong.

More food for thought…

How likely is Ron to hire an OC who, if he’s able to produce a very good offense this coming season, would look like a potential head coach alternative to a new owner?

Not very is my answer.

Not only the bottom but probably dead last. At least until the musical chairs portion in the process winds nearly all of the way down.

Hey, Gruden was on 106.7 and was asked if he would come back to Washington as OC and he said 'yeah, but tell me who the owner is going to be'

I think I would go looking at QB position coaches on teams that have hot offenses and success bringing along young QBs.

Brian Griese in SF and Matt Nagy in KC were the first two I looked at. Neither is a perfect fit but both have possibilities.

I think Joe Brady could be another guy to add to that list, based on this line of thinking.

He worked with Burrow during their National Championship season at LSU, now he has the benefit of working with Josh Allen in Buffalo, who is driving a good Buffalo offense.

Moreover, I like the fact that he was humbled in this league. His OC stint in Carolina under Matt Rhule didn't go the way he wanted to, lasting less than two seasons. He went from being an OC, getting interviewed and denied in head coaching vacancies, and now finds himself in a QB coaching position. It's not exactly the career trajectory you hope for as you strive for the top. With the setbacks, there has to be a sense of wanting to prove yourself again, and he is likely chomping at the bit to do so.

Over and above all that, he works for McDermott. We all know that coaches rely on people they trust and know quite often within NFL circles. We have seen that transpire with all the ex-Carolina coaches/players Ron brought here. You can't tell me he wouldn't highly respect/value any sort of plug or recommendation McDermott would give in regards to Brady, given Ron's connection to Sean.

Mike LeFleur just fired.

I don't hate these names.

I withhold the right to hate these names at a later date.

I'd go for Kingsbury and hope he has aspirations of being a HC still.
