2012 NFL Draft Order - Updated 03/10/12

I read on profootballtalk.com if Indie loses to Jacksonville that they will still have the number one pick. I would love for the Rams to get that pick. That is good for anyone that would want to trade up for Luck. The Vikings would lose any strength of schedule tie-breaker, they have three teams in there division that are still in the playoff hunt that equals the toughest schedule.

It will be very interesting to see how Indy plays this final game. It should be fairly obvious if they are "throwing" it, or playing at full capacity. Even Dan Orlovsky should be able to shred the depleted Jacksonville secondary - if he doesn't, bring out the tinfoil hats!!
 
Agreed. If your the Colts by playing well you would be turning down either a can't miss QB prospect or trading that pick for nine or ten draft picks. However, you can't tell a professional team to tank a game on purpose. Plus as bad as the Rams look, I don't see how they win another game.

But at what cost? It's not like we don't need OLinemen, WR's, and CB's. If we were set everywhere but QB, I could care less if we gave up the boat, but we need botha franchise QB and a load of other stuff as well, especially linemen to keep our new rook QB alive

I don't hide the fact that I am on "win and worry about the draft later" side of things. I understand the idea of losing helps us in the long run due to a better draft pick. I get it but I don't agree with it. I think we can get some guys from Free Agency. If we win our last three games and are trending upward we are going to have a better chance of signing free agents than if we absolute suck. Not saying that it evens out but it is closer than it appears to be. The picks we lose to move up we can replace those by making smart decisions in free agency. Picks like Cofield, Bowers, Wilson and Gaffney (traded for D-lineman that wasn't going to make our squad) were all good pickups none of them out of their prime. Gaffney might only have a few years left but I don't think he has lost a step and probably won't for another couple of years.

Not to mention, the young guys that we have on our team need to learn how to win now. Losing in the 4th quarter of games can be learned as easily as learning a scheme. We win now and these young guys will learn how to win in the future. Starting Beck now would be an embarrassment to the Washington Redskins. Rolling out a QB that we know can't play would be an insult to fans and anyone that has ever spent money on the Redskins. Just to show how I feel about Beck I will say this, if Grossman gets hurt in Vikings game and Beck has to finish that game, I would promote Crompton and start him against the Eagles.
 
Fans who are fixated on winning every week no matter what - you'd better resolve yourself to whatever happens. You can't have it both ways - keep winning AND get one of the top 3 QBs. The 'we'll just trade up' argument doesn't wash. Other teams don't have to trade down. Rookie salaries are now downright reasonable compared to previously (you could even carry a 2nd top QB on a roster as insurance if a guy like Christian Ponder doesn't pan out). Competing teams may bid the price up so high, it takes 3 #1's to get the guy we want.

I'm fine with 'we always want to win' - as long as the 2nd half of that statement is 'and we'll do the best we can with whatever draft position we end up with'. But don't talk about winning out and still getting a top QB, because that's about as far away from guaranteed as it could be.

And no, I'm not rooting for us to lose out. I'm just arguing that those who think we both need a top flight QB and that winning out helps us are dead wrong.

Boone, that's all fine and dandy, but teams didn't trade down in the past solely because rookie contracts were so unreasonable. Was it a factor? Probably, but it was far from the only factor. If a team in bad shape looks at the top of the draft board and decides they can find more talent further down, they'll trade down. Or, maybe they need to stock their cupboards with depth, so they want more picks. These things all factor in, not just salary requirements.

They are not mutually exclusive. Dead wrong? No - we need a top flight QB, but not at the cost of our current prospects! They need to learn how to win.

The flaw in this scenario is, Norval Turner is incapable of doing anything to positively affect the Redskins.
 
The really depressing thing about Burner's list is that we have the easiest schedule on the list and not by just a little bit either. This should have been a year for posting 12 wins with the schedule we had. It was an opportunity. :(
 
Right now, the Redskins will pick no worse than 6th. Two more games to determine the exact order of picks.
 
What do we need to have happen to move up further BB?
 
With the Jacksonville loss, we move to 6th. Cleveland is leading Pittsburgh right now and if that holds - really big "if" there and probably not likely - then we move to 5th.

Tampa Bay is losing by 42 to the Falcons and that game is already over. We can move no higher than 5th and no lower than 6th for now. It comes down to the Cleveland game.
 
And there it is. The Redskins will pick 6th - unless a trade is made.
 
So it's sealed...we pick 6th overall with the Cleveland loss.

On the surface of things, you look and see 5 teams ahead of us who you could argue have quarterbacks, or have recently used high picks drafting one.

Indy - Manning (and likely drafting Luck)
St. Louis - Bradford
Minny - Ponder
Tampa - Freeman
Cleveland - McCoy

Could this pave the road for Griffin coming to Washington? My fear is not so much that one of the five teams above us will grab him, but that the pre-draft hype surrounding RG3 will escalate to a point where another QB-desperate team will be willing to part with several picks to secure his services.

Those late season wins in New York and Seattle are looking more and more costly right about now.
 
If we want RG3 we better get ahead of Cleveland! The only shot we have is if they get a QB in free agency.
