2024 Roster Updates

I strong NO… kinda did the same thing the LB for the 9ers Campbell did the other night against the Rams not wanting to enter the game, he didn’t want to enter into the game against the Eagles for the Ravens… this season I’ve seen more bailouts then I can remember ever before… 1st the Richardson tap out for 2 plays, then Johnson against the Eagles and then Campbell for the 9ers…. Nah I don’t want any player like that on this team…. too many other players will sacrifice anything to play we don’t want guys who pretty much wimp out

Hope that's not a bad omen as far as Ertz is concerned.

It’s seems that most guys have not cleared concussion protocol the same week as their concussion. I wonder if they have added an extra check in that is detecting guys who got legit concussed vs guys who just got dazed a bit. I think it is expected that he won’t play this week.

Getting Allen back could be a big deal especially if he’s rediscovered his fire. Could be that seeing the team doing well was was what he needed to reignite his passion pilot light.

Seems clear anyway that he’s worked hard to come back early.

That assumes that fire has been the problem, which I'm not certain has ever been the issue. I think he's taken a lot of beatings over 8 seasons and I'm just not sure he's still a premier player. But I still think we're a better defense with him out there than not.

Yeah he could be back with fresh legs for the Dallas game and a playoff run

Agreed. I still expect he’s better than anyone else they could get at this point to help on the D Line. I thought he was playing better than he was to start the year right before he got injured. He definitely was not playing to what we expected, but he seemed to be doing better and then the injury. But if he’s truly recovered and is healthy and has his legs, he going to be a big help even if it is as a rotation player.

Why wouldn't they simply release him? Is this an easier way to try to recoup some of the bonus money?

I believe teams are starting to realize that some players are doing this deliberately in an attempt to get released so they can possibly sign with a contender and they don't want to reward them for bad behavior which I completely understand.
The part that confuses me is who arbitrates these disputes?
Typically when a player pulls something like this they get suspended for one game but the 9ers did 3 which is the rest of their season.
What's to stop a team next year who wants to save some cap space from exaggerating an internal issue and suspending a player for half the season for conduct detrimental?
Feels like the team has an obvious conflict of interest in being able to determine the severity of the penalty.

Yeah that makes sense but I don't see any team signing this quitter this season. Or ever.

I think it would be very dangerous to their reputation, and will be fought by the union, if a team just suspends a player to save cap space.

Yes and no.
Isn't that effectively what the 9ers just did by suspending him for 3 games?
What's the rule on how many games you can suspend a player for conduct detrimental?
Because I've never seen more than one.

Obviously I'm not talking about a player like wagner with an all star reputation and the team just making stuff up, you're right that wouldn't fly but more and more lately players have been making business decisions so to speak by exaggerating or even completely making up an injury. and now it seems teams might be fighting back just a tiny little bit by suspending players for more than one game for this sort of infraction and I wonder where the line is, that's all.

Ravens just cut Diontae Johnson. I wonder if we put in a waver claim. Seems like a head case, so I would wager not, but 2 months ago, I’d have thought he’d be a steal of a WR3.
