Burner's Burning Questions: Offseason Edition, Free Agency 2014

Chip Kelly has not proven to me he is an elite coach - 10-6 in one season is not a career made.

That said, he seems to be a good judge of talent and fit. He got the most out of Foles, McCoy and indeed Jackson in 2013.

At 27, the ONLY reason it appears Jackson is on the way out is that he is a locker room cancer of one type or another.

For a team like the Redskins that is trying to create a new vibe here and a culture of togetherness and unity, Jackson is perhaps one guy you just don't want to bring in for the cost it would take.

OR the fact that he's due $10.5 mil this year. Granted if they wanted to keep him and he wanted to say they could have restructured, but they might not want him back, or he might not be willing to take a pay cut.+

edit: accoring to a website i found he counts $12.75 against the cap this season
 
Jackson is seriously overpaid. He would be a great #2 WR because he's a hell of a burner but he's not a go-to guy a team should be paying top dollar for. Right now his cap hit is 5th in the league amongst WRs. That's just absolutely crazy. I wouldn't pay him that either, and I wouldn't give up any picks for him.

However, if we somehow worked out a deal with free agent DeSean Jackson that averaged $4 mil a year? That would make him the 32nd highest paid WR in the league. For a guy that averages 60 catches and 1020 yards a season, and 70 yards a game (for the sake of comparison, Garcon has averaged 53 ypg over the course of his career and 76 ypg with the Redskins). That would be an insane steal. You take that deal and run.

But like I said, that's never gonna happen.

Don't worry, the Raiders will offer a #1 and #2 pick for Jackson and will then give him a new 5 year, $80M contract :laugh:
 
I never thought Vick and Jackson were winners. That's where Andy Reid got into trouble. A team with these guys as 'leaders' is going no place.
 
He wasn't going to get a real development opportunity in Denver with their win- now philosophy.

After years of bringing in undersized linemen on both sides of the ball this offseason has been a nice fresh start.

Lauvao is a pro size guard and Hatcher, Geathers and Moore are tall rangy linemen with good power.0

I do like to see our size improving. Gruden's a big believer in that. Ditto on WRs. He likes them tall.

Yeah, I think it's a completely crazy idea. And no ty on $10 million a season. Geez, that's totally unnecessary. Garçon makes much less.

Why not just draft one for a fraction of that cost?

Maybe Rick has snapped.
 
Foles is only 24, why do the Eagles need Cousins?

The Redskins are not going to spend major money on head cases anymore even if they are talented.

Guys like Orakpo, Hatcher that the team spent money on this offseason are solid citizens.

It makes no sense on many different levels.

We may have even had a chance at a younger Josh Gordon last year for only a second. And a contract of only $400k a year?

And he's suggesting that we should now pay over $10 million a year for this guy?

It's insane. Just draft one in the second for peanuts if the coaching staff believes that's our biggest need, and a good player is available.
 
The Eagles have always loved to collect qbs.

Andy Reid did a good job of selling off AJ Feeley , McNabb and Kolb for high draft picks too.
