What's for Dinner?

Not to brag or anything, but I just made 2 gallons of chicken soup that would give Gordon Ramsey wood!

Between 5 kids and myself it was devoured in less than 30 mins. My oldest went back for 4ths.

Pick 'em game going down in flames. Fantasy team won't win a single game. Redskins - never mind.

Crow. Tonight I am eating crow. I don't care if it is baked, fried, broiled, frozen, raw, etc. But it will be crow.

When you're eyeballing it, cooking Cod is a lot harder to tell when it's done, compared to most other fishes and meats.
Because it looks almost identical when it's done, as it does, when it's raw.....both the same color, and the same flaky texture.

Made chili tonight and used 2 whole Jalapeños but they were very mild, almost no heat. Put about a Teaspoon of dried crushed scorpion pepper in. Wow! Really good but just on this side of pain outweighing pleasure. Enjoyed it immensely (just like the guy in 'Species' :) )

Started two 10 lb pork shoulders on the smoker last night for Carolina Pulled Pork. Smoked at 225-250 for about 15 hours and then wrapped in foil and pulled off. I have the prep for these down to a science. If anyone ever wants to learn, let me know.... I made homemade slaw and Western NC BBQ sauce (apple cider vinegar, ketchup, molasses, mustard, brown sugar, red pepper flakes, and salt) to go with it.

Grilled up some snow goose tonight. Topped it with an orange-ouzo sauce with Serrano. Served over mashed potatoes. A little more involved for what I normally do with goose, but was pretty good.

Holy cow - that sounds outrageous - where the hell do you get snow goose? :)

Decided to keep indoors this Saturday. Trying out Emeril Lagasse's Lasagna Recipe tonight. A little labor intensive making your own sauce, but subbed in fresh herbs from my herb garden for the called for dried variety, and a cup of sun-dried tomatoes from my garden for the tomato paste. We'll see how it turns out but promising so far :)

What you all cooking?

Went lazy tonight. BBQ pulled pork sammiches with lays potatoe chips.

Okay it's mid 30's and gloomy as hell. Do believe a pot of chili is in order with a grill cheese backer!

You're making me jealous now that the temps got down to the low 40s here this morning.

I was a day late on the chili...but this batch we had tonight would make Julia Childs moist!

Found a recipe for chocolate chip cookies on Cooks Illustrated that is absurd. Had many people tell me it is the best they've ever had, particularly warm. Made a batch this afternoon and am now rethinking Chicken Piccata and Creamed Spinach.

Made a great lunch with kale, turkey sausage, northern beans and pasta, with a little sprinkle of parm. Good stuff, very comfort-food-y.
