Oh that wasn't meant as a slam on ES in general. Just on the rising crescendo of 'suck for the draft' posts that have become largely unbearable.

Can't really disagree with that, Henry. I never thought I'd have to write a thread asking people not to whine about the Redskins winning... yet I did. People, like Sarge was here were apparently actively mad that the 'skins won.

That feels wrong... feels broken. So, whether it's a BGO or an ES sentiment I resist it. I don't question the fanhood of it just the wisdom and sanity of it.

Not that fandom has much to do with either wisdom or sanity.

We will suck even more next year, if we don't use the rest of this year, to "practice winning" as opposed to tanking the season. Winning is just as much a learned skill, as it is having the "right players or draft picks".

I'm not sure I agree with that. If you want this team to lose, are you really a fan of THIS team? Sure, you may be a Redskin fan ... a fan of a team that may or may not exist off in some undetermined future date when the team is finished being built ... when it is winning. But are you a fan of THIS team? The guys that suit up right now, wear the colors right now, leave it all on the field today?

Life is complicated enough as it is without overthinking sports. Sports is the escape. It's not supposed to be a chore. Our guys line up and try and beat their guys, and when they do we are happy. This is what sports should be about, not hand-wringing over offseason minutiae while the games are still being played. Sure this is just my opinion, but ... were any of you REALLY happy we got swept by Dallas again this year? Really?

What the hell has happened to this fanbase? It's bad enough to be losing without feeling like half the fans are rooting for another team ...

Boone, myself and others haven't adopted this mindset as some will-o'-the-wisp. this is a position one arrives at after 18 years of bad football. it is nothing one takes joy in. it's borne of frustration and high hopes for a better future.....we have seen how what others argue for has worked the last 18 years.....I could trot out the insanity argument....but will dispense with that cliche.

you and others are taking an idea and imputing emotions such as cheering for the other team to win...as in taking joy when they achieve. that's simply an exaggeration that is wide of the mark. I want a well played game and want to see the markers you all are asking for: progress by the new players, elimination of past mistakes....signs of improvement. but if they lose that is no skin off my nose. and these attacks on one's fandom "credentials" are beneath you.

also...we aren't talking just sports...we're talking professional sports. specifically a game in which folks are getting paid a lot of money. you want purity then go to your daughters jr high b-ball games (that's what I do) or your son's high school grid iron contests. this is the NFL.

sometimes taking one step back to achieve two steps forward is a rational plan. boone, myself, others....we have enough years invested in the fandom bank to weather these assaults on our integrity. I can understand someone saying "I'm not built that way". but calling someone else out because they see a different path forward to a shared goal? I'm dropping the yellow flag on that one!

A few things of note...

First:
I know that some may think of me as one of the fans who wants to see the team in a losing mode. I have said that if they do lose, I won't be mad about it for whatever reason. I'm not going to cheer openly for a loss. The players read these forums (yes, this one too) and I have no desire to be seen as a fan who quits on his favorite team.

Second:
I post stats every few days that keeps track of our current draft status and any insider news regarding the players that we are scouting. I'll continue to provide this service because it is fun and it has that "offseason championship" feeling to it.

Third:
I know that some of my RG3 talk added a few negative vibes to chat on Sunday. I stopped immediately and chose to post very little from that moment on and until the end of the game. The rest of my involvement in chat was devoted to the game and some humor.

Fourth:
Yes, I am a huge advocate of RG3 and the reasons are simple. Aside from his obvious talents, I have stated that the scouting staff is spending an extra amount of time on the Baylor product. No matter where we fall in the draft, I'm fairly certain that RG3 is a target and probably a priority. We'll see what happens in the coming weeks and months - it should be exciting.

Fifth:
The fans in this forum are the best. By now, the conversation would've taken on a very nasty tone in other places. In here, we have calmly discussed it and everyone seems to be cool with one another's position on these topics.

If this team, starting youth all over the place and with 8 picks a draft on deck for the next three drafts, finished on a four or five game tear it would mean something quite different than a similar final record would have meant three years ago.

I'm not sure that's something we should be so eager to root against, even though I wouldn't mind a high draft pick.

H...I get what your logic is and can't find fault with it - winning validates the draft. my only response is that I don't see it happening. aside from Kerrigan...we can't even keep our rooks healthy enough to last our remaining games! I understand "something to build on" and all that. Guess I've reached a stage in my emotions that I am so tired of losing and mediocrity that a few more losses to up the chance of controlling who we get in the draft in every round...is something I don't find any more irritating than having to watch Rex play QB!
