Yeah the numbers seem a little big to me, but we'll find out sooner or later.
Thing is ... given what this franchise has been through since 1992, if the question is whether I'd rather our next coach be
1) some young hotshot coordinator who may turn out to be the next Joe Gibbs 1.0 or, statistically far more likely, the next Rick Venturi (exactly), or
2) Mike Shanahan, who has already shown he can not only coach in the NFL, but coach a back-to-back Super Bowl champion ...
Sorry. To me the choice could not be more clear.
It's not about loving Mike Shanahan, it's about restoring basic professionalism to a franchise that has wandered so far off the path it's in danger of disappearing over the horizon.
Well, I'd like to have a Lamborghini in my driveway and Swedish blond tripletts in my bachelor pad bed, AND $14.5 million in the bank, but sometimes a man has to choose. The choice between getting a hotshot coordinator and restoring basic professionalism are not necessarily mutually exclusive. I want it all.

Just sayin'.
Coaches who have TAKEN two teams to Super Bowls ...
Bill Parcells
Dick Vermeil
Mike Holmgren
None have won it to my knowledge ... I'm old though, so I may have forgotten.

Damn, forgot Shula. I'm getting old. :kick_can:And Don Shula. Though he didn't win with both either.
Both Shula and Vermeil won the SB with their second team. So I think it is possible.
That said, I wouldn't put Shanahan in their class.
You may be right ... certainly a valid concern given Snyder's first 10 years. The hope here is that his solemn recitation about having "learned patience" from Joe Gibbs was not total lip service, and that with time, maturity and maybe (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease) a taste of success with a guy like Shanahan, he'll come to realize that winning is actually a better buzz than pretending to be a "football guy."Unfortunately, with this owner I don't think we will ever succeed going the option 1 route. Snyder is going to steamroll over anyone who doesn't have established NFL credentials. The best we may be able to hope for is a Schottenheimer/Gibbs II/Shanahan-type, who will be better than sucky for 5 years or so, but not represent the dawn of a 10+ year era of Redskin greatness.

If Snyder is going to steamroll anyone without established credentials, what did we get Allen for? He's supposed to be the shield.
The Schottenheimer/Gibbs II/Shanahan type will keep the masses happy with 10-6 seasons, but why aim low?
Straw man alert!Om, I don't think we should have to choose. That's what Danny has done to this fan base... he's lowered expectations to the point that even die hard fans will be satisfied with mediocrity. I'm not there yet. Sorry that you are.
I think you guys are over-analyzing it.
We universally called for Vinny Cerrato's resignation.
We got Vinny Cerrato's resignation.
We universally called for an experienced GM.
We got an experienced GM.
We are almost universally calling for an experienced, seasoned, capable head coach.
We're about to get an experienced, seasoned, capable head coach.
We can obsess about whether things have 'really changed' - let me solve the mystery for you. No - they haven't changed. Not yet. But I believe they will. Because Snyder is willingly bringing in guys that aren't going to be puppets, and won't tolerate non-football people (even an owner) directing traffic. I believe that.
So color me pretty satisfied with the past 2 weeks of shifting direction![]()
I'm just not going to let my frustrations over the past 17 years color my perception to the point I can't allow for the possibility of change.
I'll admit be being curious about what post/posts of mine gave you that impression, brother, but ...I guess I misread you, because it seems that that's just what you're doing. You're not allowing for the possibility that the Danny can change and go with someone non-established without steamrolling him.
... since it looks like we're on the same page, I'll just chalk it up to being out of practice and needing to tighten up my verbage. Plus it's Christmas.I see in looking at your previous post that you are indeed holding out hope for the Danny, so my error. I guess I'm more where Henry is... I'll believe in Danny when the evidence of meddling goes away and the team appears to have a sound front office which shows up in part with winning non-dysfunctional teams on the field.
I'm sure we all want that.
