The Defense!

They needed all 3 of those guys too, because he beat two of them.

I have seen scrutiny about him and his 'low' sack numbers, but this kind of stuff... stuff that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. This is how it's possible to consistently rush 4 and the QB not have ALL day back there.... 65 didn't even have anyone to block. There were 7 players dedicated to blocking, and Gallman even chipped Sweat before the RG got pushed 9 yards by Payne in the middle.

Rough math tells you that's 7 defenders on the back end covering 2 route runners and a check down RB.. Numbers favor defense there.

I found this which you might enjoy:

In their ranking system, QB scrambles don't count as rushing plays. Therefore the WFT run defense is ranked #13. After this last week the WFT is now 11th in rush yards allowed.

They also have the passing defense ranked #2. They are also #2 in passing yards allowed.

The Cowboys made the defense look good. Hopefully they can keep it up against the similarly woeful Giants (although somehow we managed to lose to them anyway).

The team is 11th in opponent scoring per game at 23.6 points/gm. If the offense wasn't contributing to that number they'd be even better.

With an offense as inept as Washington's, 23.6 points/gm won't be good enough to win most games (Washington is ranked #30 in scoring offense at 19 ppg).

I see the defense is getting worse. The passing defense has moved down from #2 to #5, the rush defense has moved from #13 to #21 in rush yards allowed, but RB only yards ranked #13.

The Defensive Line is ranked #13, still poor in my opinion in consideration of both expectations and the number of #1 draft picks it contains.

They only managed one sack against a team ranked #19 in sacks allowed.

Overall the defense, while surely not being helped by the offense, is under-performing.

They're tired and probably frustrated. I definitely see a decline in them as well. Payne was a great run stopper, but not having Matt behind him is hurting.

Our secondary is just pitiful. They have no talent back there outside of Fuller. But, even he is getting exposed. He also isn't following the #1 around like I would have thought he would.

Yeah our scheme is goofy imho. I don't know what JDR is doing back there.

neither does he LOL

Jones ate us alive on Sunday. 12 yards per catch....what in the F was even happening?! I see our guys chasing down receivers far too much or the exact opposite and playing too soft of a cushion.

The defensive line overall was just embarrassing for all the talent they say they are up front.

Young - 2 tackles
Allen - 2 tackles
Payne - 0 tackles
Sweat - 0 tackles
Kerrigan - 0 tackles
Anderson - 0 tackles

all the tackles came from the LB and CB spots. That is not even close to what you want. That just shows you got pushed around the entire game. They can't blame being tired, either. Smith did a great job of keeping drives alive and moving the ball up and down the field.

Tim Settle has a sack in 3 of his last 4 games... 4 sacks on the season. The dude is quietly just making plays. I don't think we can overstate how valuable it is to have this much depth on the line. The line can rotate through more frequently and situationally allowing for them to remain fresh and effective later and later. The line took over after Finlay came in yesterday....

You know who else had a sack yesterday? ;)

His total matches so far matches his season total of last year...

Another example of how this rotation lifts the effectiveness of everyone. I said it to you yesterday, Kerrigan should have been i this role his entire career. Not OLB dropping into coverage, not OLB playing edge contain trying to chase down Michael Vick... he is a DE who is, and always has been, really good at rushing the passer. If we used him this way his whole career, he has a bust in Canton. I think there's an outside chance it could still happen, but if he was in THIS defense for 10 seasons....

Kerrigan is #4 all time ACTIVE sack leaders right now.

Von Miller - 106
JJ Watt - 100
Chandler Jones - 97
Ryan - 95.5

That is a really good list to be on . But, out of all of them, I guarantee you the only one that shocks people is Ryan. He is so quiet and humble...plus, being on consistently shitty teams doesn't help his case.

Watch Chase Young this entire play, this is impressive. This is 4th down, a TD here likely ties the game.

He starts at RDE, gets swallowed up into a double team, spins out and identifies Burrow's path immediately. (Watch 77 for the Bengals thing Burrow is gonna score) He full sprint catches Burrow and slows down while Apke whifs on Burrow (but pushes him back inside), and is quick enough to then get back up enough juice to plant Burrow and prevent the TD. Burrow should have scored, Young was not in even in front of him...

People wanted a 'game changing' type play. Here it is. Had this play happened with :30 seconds left in the 4th quarter, it would be EVERYWHERE.

Absolutely a monster and an amazing hit.

Except for Apke. Apke whiffed like he does most plays.
