The Bombshell

It looks like time to start leaking the Mary Jo White report. 👺

The NYPost has never been known as a bastion of great investigative journalism or journalistic integrity.

The Post, the Times, and the WSJ.

But I'm a traditionalist. :)

It’s simple for me. If Snyder doesn’t sell this off-season, I’m washing my hands of it and walking away. I can only take so much.

My gut is this is a tactic to make Bezos pay through the nose but we’ll see. My sense is that the only thing more dominant than pettiness in Dan Snyder’s makeup is his greed.

One of the things that rings untrue to me is this line that Snyder is blocking Bezos from bidding. I can see him saying, "No matter what I'm not accepting this guy's bid," since this isn't an auction and the highest bid doesn't automatically win. Still, I'm not sure BoA would not accept Bezo's bid if he made one. Not only would it be counterproductive it just seems unreasonable. I suppose it's possible that Snyder could go to his investment bank and present them with a list of guys that he would never accept a bid from and that the bank could then inform those bidders that their bids have been rejected, but otherwise how do you block a bid?

Blocking anyone from bidding doesn't make financial sense. The goal is to make the most money possible on the sale of an asset. More bids likely mean a higher price. Wealthier bidders also likely mean a higher sale price.

Granted, the other issue here is that if Snyder absolutely does not want to sell to Bezos, he may not want a bid from him out of fear that the NFL will force him to accept that bid because it's higher and increases the value of 31 other franchises.

What’s even more idiotic if Dan actually did prove info to anyone that he would never sell to Bezos is the fact that now the other bidders know they don’t have to compete with him. Even if he says he’d pay $7b, it provides zero leverage for Dan to use to drive the other bidders up.

I don't know what will happen with that, but I'll say this. If the league wanted Bezos as an owner and he was interested and was going to put in a top bid, the league would make it happen. Maybe Jerry won't want him, but I'm pretty sure every other owner would want him in their billionaire club, as would Goodell.

New name...

BTW maske seems to be really involved lately...

The real issue here is going to be the percentage of the sale price that the majority owner has to be able to drop down in cash. The interested guys are all in the wealth range where 5.5 to 6 seems to be their rough ceiling and except for Bezos, there isn't a single name in the rumors who can seriously challenge to get above that level.

In short, if Dan wants his price, Bezos is his only hope. That has got to frustrate him.

The world’s population is closing in on 8 billion.

Bezos has nearly $15 per. 😬

A bit more detail for those, like me, who don’t give money to WaPo.

The 3 certainties in life: death, taxes, and Dan Snyder acting Dan Snyder-ish.
