The 1st Round Pick
I’m not absolving Terry from blame in this scenario. In fact, I’m at the point where the FO should simply call his bluff and tell him to go find a trade partner that will pay him what he wants.
That said, it’s hard for me to not believe his agent hasn’t filled his head with BS all offseason, leading to this emotional scenario we are in today.
Anyone ever sold a house? You love the place, put a lot of hard work and $ into it. The realtor tells you to list it for X, likely have multiple suitors, and you start hyping yourself up that it’s going to sell for X or more. You’ve seen other homes in the neighborhood sell for big $, and think yours is on par or better than theirs. Perspective buyers come and go, no offers. You finally get an offer and it’s for 20% less than the list price. You balk and counter. Buyer walks.
That feeling sucks. It happened to me pre-Covid before real estate went nuts again. You built this idea in your head of your homes value and even start spending the money in your head.
I didn’t need that extra money I was counting in my head. But I wanted it because I was led to believe that’s what it was worth and I’m getting ripped off taking a lot less. It’s psychological and emotional.
That’s where Terry’s at.
