The 2026 Draft Thread - Day 2

I bet he drops to the third. I don't have a strong opinion on him because I can't find any Georgia State games. Highlights are nice but sometimes it can be very deceiving.

Why do I think he falls to the third?

A. 10% career drops
B. Easy competition -- at least judging by PFF when he had a real college opponent, Ole Miss, he had a bad game
C. Some who do have access to Georgia State games, ala Josh Norris and some other draftnik I watched said he struggles against press.

I watched his Senior Bowl reps, decent, nothing killer. But I like his quick feet. If they moved him to big slot, I think that can work better for him then lets say Malachi Fields who IMO does not have quick feet.

Hurst is intriguing, i am more intrigued by him than I am for example with Lance. But some boom-bust to him IMO. I'd be very surprised if he goes in the 2nd. I think the third round where you see him in most mocks feels right to me. But will see.

Regarding this thought, Cosel said definitively that Hurst is an X. But some other draft podcast I watched said that Hurst operated largely out of the slot, and as such, had a lot of free releases, and they also worried about him against press. I discounted it, because I hadn't seen the film myself, and like a lot of draft podcasters these days, they seemed like a couple of 24 year olds and I had no idea about their qualifications, but Cosell is Cosell.

I worry about counting on a 3rd round wide receiver coming in and being what we need him to be this season. I know it's been talked about, but we have plenty of developmental guys. McCaffry, Lane, even Burks. We need someone we can actually count on to be productive at WR. Is a 3rd round WR even likely to make the roster? McCaffry is our kick returner, Lane our punt returner, both are developing as receiver. Terry, Aiyk, Burks, McCaffrey, McLaurin, that is 5 right there. I mean, a super weak 5, but is a 3rd rounder likely to be immediately better? I don't know.

I'm not against a 3rd round receiver, but that can't be, THE PLAN. Unless we get Love. Jayden, Love, Okonkwo, Terry, Aiyuk, and filler is probably plenty of explosive talent in both the passing and running game. I'm already bracing myself for not getting Love. He would change the entire offense.

I think Sarratt (listen to the Blind Pigs podcast from yesterday, big discussion) is an immediate impact player for us, yes. I think he is completely slept on by people. He’s productive, has a high FBI and will immediately be a red zone target for us.

Do I think he’s number 2? Probably not. And I wouldn’t want to put that on him. But I think he could be.

The thing with Sarratt is I think he can start as WR3, especially in the red zone. He is a dude Jayden can fall in like with just throwing it up to him because he is winning on contested catches.

Probably my favorite player in the draft is a guy you brought up in the podcast, Chris Bell. To me he is the man but dang that injury does't set him up well for us. To me, healthy he is a legit WR2 right out of the gate. FOr him to reach 71 would be incredible and extremely doubtful

I think he is an outside receiver. The impression I got from the daftondraft guys is that he mainly played outside but he got a lot of free releases because he intimidated a lot of the FCS DB's cause he is 6'4 and with 4.42 speed. That combo in the FCS is like Randy Moss. So DB's wanted to bail. So even when playing outside he wasn't really challenge. Its a level of competition thing. Don't know if its true for Byrce Lance too as he also played FCS.

I can't find any Georgia State games. So its tough for me to come up with a macro take on a player based on highlights and some Senior Bowl reps.

I'll just say as a raw prospect, he's intriguing because of his size-speed. His feet look twitchy to me -- quick feet so in theory I can see him work the slot.

I do like Cosell. And like his takes. Based on his profile, I think third round feels right.

I don’t know if this has been posted anywhere. But I thought I would put it here.

One of my favs in this draft who I've posted on.
I can only see Roush (or any TE) in 3rd if they are BPA on their board by a wide margin. There are just too many higher needs right now I my eyes. We have seen how TE's normally do not contribute a ton in their first year. If we had more picks or we were talking day 3, then I'd be more open to the idea of Roush or another TE

Agree. And I just always have had a love for monster size blocking TEs who can also catch. And its finally becoming in vogue now with all these 13 personnel sets, etc.

As I've said, if there is one point that is made a ton by the media some fans, etc is that Peters addressed everything enough where they can do anything in the draft.

I like his FA class. But that point to me is BS. WR and CB have holes the size of the Grand Canyon.

Yeah if Roush was able to step right in contributing with blocking and receiving I could be on board with this. Of course we'd need to already have a legit WR2. Ad if Aiyuk, he would Ott be enoughtt for me. I just do not have the confidence in whatt he will be able to bring due to the injury and extended missed play time

I am pretty thrilled with the FA class minus WR. I could see options in the draft to clear the DB issue but I feel we are where we were last year at WR, unstable and in a hole.

If we were to do a "needs" draft, we would get Tate in the first and a center in the third.

I probably wouldn't hate it.

Yeah my only pause about this off season is last year they left two huge holes at edge and WR but hoped for the best. Keim said in a podcast they knew they were risking it at those spots. And it blew up in their face.

If you recall, last year we thought after ignoring edge in FA mostly -- they'd go to town in the draft considering it was stacked at that spot. And they didn't.

So this year they have two huge holes at WR and CB. We expect them to address it in the draft. But judging by last year, they may not.

Like I mentioned for me hearing Quinn explain how this WR crew could work with a by committee approach made me cringe. I know some defended those comments and said hey you expect him to trash the crew? Yeah of course not. But Quinn expounded on the point on his own, it wasn't a direct answer to a direct question, so it seemed to be a window into how they are discussing the point in their building.

What's my takeaway from that. They convinced themselves like they did last year to the edge spot that they don't have to take a WR -- if they don't there is an if and buts turn to candy and nuts thought about that spot.

Can you imagine if they do nothing at WR in the draft. SF hangs on to Aiyuk through August. And then Terry gets banged up again? Dyami at X, McCaffrey at Y, and Van Jefferson at Z?

I can live with Allegretti at center if need be, If its needs to me, its WR and CB. And if you want a center not hard to do in the 5th.

I dunno. I think Allegretti is a worse center than Amos and Sainristil are corners. Then again, as I'm typing this I'm realizing part of that projection and assuming that Mike reverts back to 2024 form and Amos takes a step up.

I dunno. I just dunno.

(In any case, I really prefer a BPA vs. a BNA)

Yeah, the whole wr thing is kinda scary, especially with the context you added about how they treated it last year.

I will say though that I think it’s a little easier to swallow DQ’s comment when you consider that report last year about Chris Moore being the only guy that knew the routes. Here’s hoping it’s more about that then a “we’ll be fine with what we have if the draft doesn’t land us a guy” kind of thing.

If things don’t work out (in terms of Aiyuk and the draft), I hope they bring in Keenan Allen and maybe return Ertz. FAR from ideal, but that duo at least can be important role players on 3rd downs/redzone, particularly when combined with White/Okonkwo/Terry.

Really hoping the scheme does indeed help the corners, because while I still like Sainristil, he and Robertson as starters don’t fill me with confidence.

Yeah Tate makes too much sense (if he reached 7).

I agree with SIP that if the draft were today I'd then go DB in the 3rd and C/G in the 5th.

The only difference for me is I am not restricting myself to CB because I'd almost rather have a FS or really hybrid
