The original draft thread has largely been about the 7th pick in the draft, so a lot of the day 2 prospects have gotten lost in the wash, figured we could have a thread dedicated to these options so they get their due attention.

Currently we have 1 pick on day 2

Round 3 - Pick 71 overall

Let see some prospects!

I am not sure what this thread is for with the draft thread going but I do hope for a small trade back from 7 to gain another day 2 pick. We sure do need another pick

DWinzit do you prefer this over likely getting a very good asset at 7? I guess it depends on how good yeah?

I think if Bailey is there at 7 take him, otherwise look for a small trade back. That still allows us to bring in a good starter in the first and should add at least one additional needed day 2 pick. The team needs such an infusion of talent, youth and cap friendly contracts

I shifted the original draft thread to be specifically about pick 7, this is for the conversation beyond that for day 2 of the draft... thought it was pretty self explanatory.

This isn't meant to sound snarky but at this point, 2 months from the draft, we have no idea where any of these players will be drafted. To me that makes it easier to discuss all of the players in one thread.

but there wasn't anyone talking about any other picks, that whole thread has revolved around the 7th pick, but there are prospects we can be looking at well beyond that.

To me I posted here as it was more of a trading back focus I was getting at, wasn't primarily thinking about the pick we have.... but all good

and if we trade back, does that mean we don't pay attention to any prospects available on day 2? I'm not understanding why this concept seems like a burden. There are going to be players on day 2 that the team may want to, or should target, Instead of weeding through 159 pages where 90 % of it is focused on 7, i simply thought it might be good to have a place to look beyond that

Malachi Fields is one of my thoughts for our 3rd rounder. Senior Bowl showed route running that implied misuse for his role in the Notre Dame scheme. I think that misuse would normally be a negative thought, except that the clear best offensive talent in this year's draft (Love) was who the scheme was designed around instead.

Not saying he's going to be AJ Green or Andre Johnson. But for the low low price of a 3rd rounder, he could be one of those high end WR2s that punch into borderline WR1 territory because of Red Zone proficiency. Tee Higgins seems apt as his best possible comparator.

That's not true. Since this team holds such a high pick and currently no 2nd rounder, it's only natural for 7 to receive the major focus. But okay

When we analyze this pick, we should take a serious look at the types of players that end up hitting in round 3 historically. This tends to be guys at non premium positions.

The safety class is very deep this year. If we keep #71, it’d be a great spot to possibly take a post safety. It’s possible you could snag a Day 1 starter here

Fields is a good player for this thread because the earliest I have seen or heard of him going is mid 2nd and latest in the mid 3rd. We spoke a lot about him during Senior Bowl week and following. To my point, we have also discussed WR's predicted to go between the bottom of the 1st to the mid 2nd and other in the 3rd to 4th.

It is also a fairly deep class in Edge and probably need 2 of them. If we don't trade back at 7 to gain more picks and con't take en Edge at 7, 71 would be a key spot to take one

Would you rather have a potential starting post safety or a rotational edge? I can easily the latter in FA on the cheap

So I’ve opened a forum to talk about potential 2nd (if we trade back) and 3rd round options. Why is this such a problem to you?

I want good decisions in FA, that lead to good decisions in the draft, that lead to a much talent enriched roster.

There are going to be some solid DB's, WR's, IOL, Edge, DT's and LB's in the 3rd round. I want them to pick the one available with the most talent that fits team wants and needs the best. Someday when this team has a better roster I just want them to select BPA period but we aren't there currently .If S is it, great

So there have been a ton of later round prospects discussed on the draft thread but some names:

Josiah Trotter, LB, Mizzou
Chris Brazzell, WR, Tennessee
Elijah Sarratt, WR, Indiana
Kyle Louis, LB, Pitt
Zion Young, DE, Mizzou
Derrick Moore, DE, Michigan
Akheem Mesidor, DE, Miami
KC Concepcion, WR, A&M
Blake Miller, OT, Clemson
Zachariah Branch, WR, Georgia
Anthony Hill, LB, Texas
D’Angelo Ponds, CB, Indiana
Romello Height, Edge, TT
Max Iheanachor, OT, AZ State

Which of these guys are day 2 (2nd / 3rd round) guys, and which ones do you like?

All of these guys are day 2/day 3. Where in that spectrum they fall is really dependent on a lot of things on draft day.

I like most of them.

My favorites are: Trotter, Sarratt, Iheanachor, Mesidor, Hill, Ponds, Scott, Bell, Fields, Louis
