The Starter
I bet he drops to the third. I don't have a strong opinion on him because I can't find any Georgia State games. Highlights are nice but sometimes it can be very deceiving.
Why do I think he falls to the third?
A. 10% career drops
B. Easy competition -- at least judging by PFF when he had a real college opponent, Ole Miss, he had a bad game
C. Some who do have access to Georgia State games, ala Josh Norris and some other draftnik I watched said he struggles against press.
I watched his Senior Bowl reps, decent, nothing killer. But I like his quick feet. If they moved him to big slot, I think that can work better for him then lets say Malachi Fields who IMO does not have quick feet.
Hurst is intriguing, i am more intrigued by him than I am for example with Lance. But some boom-bust to him IMO. I'd be very surprised if he goes in the 2nd. I think the third round where you see him in most mocks feels right to me. But will see.
Regarding this thought, Cosel said definitively that Hurst is an X. But some other draft podcast I watched said that Hurst operated largely out of the slot, and as such, had a lot of free releases, and they also worried about him against press. I discounted it, because I hadn't seen the film myself, and like a lot of draft podcasters these days, they seemed like a couple of 24 year olds and I had no idea about their qualifications, but Cosell is Cosell.
I worry about counting on a 3rd round wide receiver coming in and being what we need him to be this season. I know it's been talked about, but we have plenty of developmental guys. McCaffry, Lane, even Burks. We need someone we can actually count on to be productive at WR. Is a 3rd round WR even likely to make the roster? McCaffry is our kick returner, Lane our punt returner, both are developing as receiver. Terry, Aiyk, Burks, McCaffrey, McLaurin, that is 5 right there. I mean, a super weak 5, but is a 3rd rounder likely to be immediately better? I don't know.
I'm not against a 3rd round receiver, but that can't be, THE PLAN. Unless we get Love. Jayden, Love, Okonkwo, Terry, Aiyuk, and filler is probably plenty of explosive talent in both the passing and running game. I'm already bracing myself for not getting Love. He would change the entire offense.
