The 2025 Free Agency Thread

He is 30 years old. That’s the only question mark…
That and who knows what the Steelers would ask in return to trade him. Suppose he could wait till becoming a FA next year but then, as you pointed out, he will be 31 looking for a long term deal.

I think we’ve done all the trading we can in 2025. If you want to have a draft at all and build for the future you can’t give them all away lol…

It is time for him to maximize his value. If he waits a lot longer it just gets less and less likely to get the big contract. If he acts now there is real incentive to get the deal done. I guess he will do his best to hold them over the barrel.

I must say that I found retaining Gonzalez to be a head scratcher. Pun intended.

It's a 1 year deal. I imagine if something better comes along we will kick the tires. At a minimum we have a guy on the roster who knows the team, coaches, facilities. I don't think we're married to him, but as we've seen 100 times, good kickers aint just walkin the streets. It's not about the ceiling, it's about the floor.

30 years old and coming offf a less productive year. I’d rather have Hendrickson.
I'd love to have either on our roster, so we could be the ones to trade them away for draft capital like a good franchise.

Watt has to be considered at least the equivalent to Tunsil, right? 30+ / needs a contract extension/ top 3-5 at his position?

I don’t think it’s remotely comparable to Tunsil for two reasons. Edge rushers don’t age well. They tend to fall off by their early 30’s, and I’d say especially the smaller, speed guys. Tackles have a well documented ability to play well into their mid 30’s. It happens all the time.

But also, Tunsil was great in pass protection last year, and TJ Watt was significantly less productive than the prior year.

Even Hendrickson, who doesn’t appear to be falling off yet, would be a significantly bigger risk than Tunsil in terms of production.

Don't know if this has been posted, but it appears we've signed QB Josh Johnson to a 1 tr deal (per Keim).

HTTR!

He was about 3 inches away from being forcibly flown to El Salvador. That playoff doink against Tampa...hoo boy.

lol. True. Realistically it was probably only 1 inch away from having the laws of physics not in his favor

The line between bouncing in and being an amusing story and bouncing out and being run out of town on a rail is very thin in the NFL.

Someone else had brought up Matt Gay on this thread. My guess is the Colts cut him because he was being paid like an elite kicker and he wasn’t performing like one. (He was one in LA, however).

I would absolutely take him over Zane. I know we’ve spent a lot of time with Borragles during the draft process and may use a Day 3 pick on a kicker. While you have success stories from time to time, it feels like most young kickers get cut by their original team once or twice before figuring things out

Signing Gay would also allow us to use the 6th or 7th on another position like NT instead

I say the more the merrier. Bring in as may good legs as you can and let the best man win. Roster limits may prevent this, but there's no real reason you can't have a three-way kicking competition in May.

I'm confused by this one. It's cool that he's back with only team he's ever won a game with, but he seems a little bit long in the tooth if we already have Mariota. Unless he's supposed to mentor Mariota mentoring Daniels.
