The 2025 Free Agency Thread

I'm confused by this one. It's cool that he's back with only team he's ever won a game with, but he seems a little bit long in the tooth if we already have Mariota. Unless he's supposed to mentor Mariota mentoring Daniels.
I’d say don’t overthink it. Another veteran arm for camp and probably means they know they can’t take a QB in the draft. Most likely a camp cut and Mr. Handsome Hairdo goes to PS. (That’s Hartman for those playing along at home.)

I say the more the merrier. Bring in as may good legs as you can and let the best man win. Roster limits may prevent this, but there's no real reason you can't have a three-way kicking competition in May.
The 90 man roster limit IS the real reason. But I will be surprised if there are not at least 2 kickers on the 90 man roster heading into OTAs after the draft.

Z. Smith is probably the only one who is still as good or better than what we had with Fowler last year.

I'd agree but Von Miller is 36 and probably still will get a pretty big payday then miss 1/2 the season and playoffs.

I might have to take Judon over Milller.

Von Miller then Zadrius Smith. Then a bug drop off for Judon.
What, no love for bringing Preston Smith back? :p

I agree. I’d go Von then Zadarius. Hell. If you could get them to sign reasonable deals I might be tempted to sign both to one year deals. And just rotate them to keep them fresh. Though that’s not going to happen.

Why couldn't it happen? We have the cap space and the need

Zadarius easily for me. He is an upgrade over Fowler and what he brought to the table.

He is not going to give you anything in the run game but he would be the best pass rusher on the team isntantly

I have been thinking Zadarius.
Can Von still have it at his age and be able stay healthy?
I'd rather go Judon as my backup plan.

AP may hold off on making a move. There are a lot of teams that just loaded up on that great Edge class. Some of there veteran Edge players will be cut due to the rooks or due to crap hits they represent.

I am not a doctor of course. Von played 13 games and played apparently on a bum ankle and still was a top 10 rated pass rusher according to PFF, with a high pressure rate. I like Za'darius Smith, too. One or the other.

Smith didn't really do anything against us in the playoff game. I'd probably go Miller, but any signing would be strictly as a merc to replace the Fowler role.

What's stuck in my mind is this

Za'darius Smith trade was a TOTAL FLOP. 39.8 PFF grade vs. Wash. 3rd worst on the team. Thanks for nothing, 99. If only we had managed to get Myles instead.

Whoever the hell Jonah Williams is had a 55.8 at the same position as Smith. You can hate PFF all you want, but a score that bad from Smith doesn't lie. 20 players played on D. He was ranked 18. And Iffy was #20, btw, with a 34.5. He was an absolute shit show.

Playoff Von Miller vs Regular Season Von Miller: a quick comparison of some key stats per game

We all know from watching him play that Von Miller has stepped up his performance in the playoffs. I just wanted to take a quick look at some stats on a per-game basis and see how much better Miller's stats are in the playoffs. Obviously, keep in mind that playoffs are a small sample size, but also keep in mind that the competition is much stronger. The numbers are impressive. Bills fans should be happy.

Yeah its stuck in my mind too. I'd love to have Zadrius Smith. but he's not some playoff legend. Zero sacks, the last three years he's been in the playoffs. Doesn't mean per se he sucks in the post season, but he's not known for play in the post season.

Von Miller actually is a playoff legend and played well in the playoffs last season.

If we want to win a SB, I think this dude is more likely to rise to the occasion.

Some seem to think well its the end of his career so you won't get his best. I think the opposite in the post season, he'd want to go out with a ring.

He's not just a legend but he's known for having his best play in big spots.

It's juxtaposing a dude who is legendary for clutch play in big games, big moments versus a guy who isn't known for the same thing. Recall some of us lamenting how Chase Young talked big but then dissapeared in the playoff game versus Tampa? Our D lineman in general not known for playing big in big games. So the point sticks with me as relevant versus being irrelevant. Hurts is a good QB IMO not a great one, but plays great often in big moments-big games. We want to have our own players who shine with the big lights on.

Zadrius easily #2 for me. For me, its really Von or Zadrius or bust. Both OK enough against the run judging by PFF scores but not sure.

He didn't miss half the season and the playoffs last year or the year before. He missed 4 games last year. Pass rushers though miss games. That's not a crazy number of missed games for a D lineman. We've been spolied by Daron Payne who never gets hurt just about.

His really only one bad season was 2023, and even in that one he rose to the occasion in the post season with almost an elite 90 pass rushing score from PFF. That's a theme with him.

The dude is a post season legend. Even later in his career. If we want a SB, I'd go with the dude who plays big in those big games.

But look I'd dig Zadriis Smith, too. I just disagree with those who think its easily Zadrius over Von. I think its not hard to make the reverse case.

With AP I do not feel bound to the players on that list.

I have not taken Hendrickson off the table.

And again, there are going to be many others that will become available even if some are not until June 1st
