AP burning the midnight oil doing his homework, calling agents and finding out he can get the better deals at a cost effective price. I like that!

Salary Cap information

My guess with 61 players signed we have between 15-20 million left

need to revise- it is much closer to $30,000,000 it is just the top 51 salaries- educated myself-guessed on some salaries of FA who will take over top 51

NFL Salary Cap Explained: What Is the NFL Salary Cap?

The NFL salary cap can seem complicated — and in many ways, it is. Let’s boil down to the basics as the 2024 offseason gets underway.

At its core, the NFL salary cap limits how much each team can pay players on its roster in a given season. The 2025 salary cap is estimated to be in the range of $277.5 million to $281.5 million, which is a significant increase from last year’s $255.4 million cap.

The collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the NFL Players Association mandates that owners and players split the league’s revenue. Historically, ownership has received a slightly larger share of the pie — players currently earn 48% of the profits.

NFL revenue comes from three sources: media revenue, NFL ventures/playoff revenue, and local revenue. The players’ total is then divided by the league’s 32 teams to give each club its individual salary cap.

Salary cap numbers are a combination of salaries and bonuses. Only the top 51 players count toward the cap during the offseason, but when the season starts, all 53 players on the active roster count toward it.

Additionally, any player placed on the injured reserve or the practice squad counts against a team salary cap. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washington-commanders/overview/_/year/2025

People forget Fowler had 4 sacks the year before we signed him. Whose production will we rehabilitate this year? Chinn also played better here last season than he had in recent years. That’s why these guys are replaceable. There’s a never ending supply of cheap vets with the potential to produce on short contracts while you draft the core of the team, when you have an environment that benefits the players and puts them in position to succeed. Every year until the vast majority of the roster is young and drafted and you can eventually start playing the compensatory pick game, changing those cheap vet signings to be guys who were cut and don’t factor into the formula, etc.

I will also remind that it was just recently that some posters on WAS message boards wanted us to keep Martavis Bryant as the 4th-5th WR on that depth chart for…reasons. It’s important to remember that we don’t always have an accurate view on what “upside” actually looks like and who has it.

But I swear, Anthony Mix was TALL and that’s upside!!!!!

Yep, and if these players on one year deals are motivated, they’re going to put forth extra effort and play hard for another contract.

May not be the biggest names out there, but they’ve definitely added some solid ground beef to the D line! Everybody talked about addressing the trenches, and they’ve done that, so I’m feeling pretty happy at this point. I like that they’ve mostly stuck to the theme of high character leader types, and hard-nosed attackers.

Lawrence got way too much money at age 33 in Seattle. 3 years for $42M with $18M guaranteed. In Dallas he was oft injured in recent seasons including 2024 and appears at this point to be a specialist but not a three down performer any longer.

Wise was another solid signing. 5 sacks with good size to stop the run.

Another rotation piece.
