The 2025 Draft Thread

Just a quick re-cap of our 2025 draft picks since we're slightly more than a 1/4 through the season:

• 1st round pick 29 - Josh Conerly Jr, OT: Starting at RT, and playing well. Had a bit of a "welcome to the NFL" start to his career going up against all-pros every week, but has settled in and playing well.
• 2nd round pick 61 - Trey Amos, CB: Starting on the outside and by all accounts doing a good job. Looks the part. Some growing pains, but you'd expect that for a rookie.
• 4th round pick 128 - Jaylin Lane, WR: Has flashed as a returner, a few catches here and there on offense. Definitely providing value on ST already.
• 6th round pick 205 - Kain Medrano, LB: He's been inactive in every game except the Falcons game. I can't find somewhere to see if he played on ST in that game or not, but he did not play on defense.
• 7th round pick 245 - Jacory "Bill" Croskey-Merritt - is doing outstanding as a running. Kliff keeps reiterating he needs to grow on plays where he doesn't carry the ball, which would be pass protection, lead blocking for another runner and as a receiver. That said, for a 7th round pick, he's leading the league in yards per attempt, and you can't complain about that.

At the moment, I think you'd have to say Peters hit it out of the park with this draft class. It's still VERY VERY early, and much can change. But when you are getting contributions from every member of the draft class except one by the 1/4 point of the season, you had a good draft.

There are always "we could have had this player instead who was picked 15 spots later."

However, fans of other teams will be doing the same thing with our picks. So I really don't value that as a really useful exercise.

So far, so good, I think.

Absolutely looks like a great draft right now.

And 2024, is looking good, not great but IMO good. Don't get me wrong its great in the context of them taking Jayden. but some atttack Peters on that draft as a bad one and its pretty good. so far IMO

At this point McCaffrey is a good pick. Not a great one. But its good IMO. If you can pull an emerging #3, #4 type receiver who might be the best kick returner in the NFL and is a good blocker at #100. That's a good pick IMO. I listen to some callers on talk radio who are really tough on that pick -- treating it like it was a top 32 pick instead of being pick 100 in the draft, which is weird. I guess because of his name, the expectations are high?

2nd round pick hit rates from what I recall are about 50-50. We should know more than most, that 2nd round picks can be busts. Preston Smith being one of the rare successes. So Sainristil, Newton are trending up. Not superstars but they look like starters.

Sinnott is the dissapointment thus far but at a minimum he's not a bust, he's a decent blocker.

Coleman is TBD.. Magee has looked good in spurts. Ditto Baptise.

I don't know how much more you're going to get out of Skattebo than you're getting now. He's physical, try hard and has moxy. He'll improve, but how much? Eh, not sure. He's not going to get a lot faster.

I think Bill can get a lot better. He has to develop as a receiver and blocker. He's probably about how good he will be as a ball carrier. But the other parts of his game can improve a lot.

Receptions. He got 2 receptions in the last game. I recall in college he had insane reception numbers. Passing game weapon.

Re Skattebo and Rodriguez, I’d rather have Skattebo by miles. YPC doesn’t capture it and it’s not even the passing game chops. Skattebo personally wore out Philadelphia with his physicality. They didn’t want any part of him by the end of that game. It’s not that the offensive line had been leaning on them all game. It was clearly just the physicality of the running back. We’ve never had a running back that physical, since I’ve been watching.

In fairness he is better than what we expected from BRob because of his receiving skills which seems to be overlooked to date. However, he has already accumulated 18 receptions and that is no surprise at all

the only thing they have in common is they are both big dudes.

Cam runs violently, Brian does not.

Among Brian's pedestrian stats which has followed him to SF where they are giving him a whopping 5 carries a game and he's stuck on his usual 4 YPC. The thing about Brian, as I am guessing he's not the most self aware dude. When he was asked what could he do better this season, his only answer was just stay healthy -- as if everything else was great. Keim commented on one of his podcasts that you can see during camp players work on other things on the sidelines but not Brian.

The Junkies mentioned during one of the preseason games he was dressed to the nines on the sidelines and came off like he was a celebrity. Then you got the odd bullentin board material from him last year saying Washington are a bettter team than the Eagles and then following up his big talk with two fumbles in the first quarter against Philly.

I said it in the off season -- addition by subtraction for the running back room if they got rid of him. And I was thrilled that they did.

Yeah I like Rodriguez. But 100% on this point. Also Skattebo is a passing weapon, Rodriguez is not.

Speaking of Robinson. In the off season I showcased a similar play comparing Barkley and Robinson. Barkley saw all the players plugged up in the A-B gap and decided to dart the other way for a TD. Robinson with a similar look ran into traffic right up the gut and was stuffed. Here's a TD from Croskey-Merritt doing it Barkley style. Vision, vision, vision.

I’d say BRob’s saving grace is that he is a good receiving back and most of his big plays came in the receiving game in space. The one OC to really use it was Bienemy
