The 2025 Draft Thread

Question, I've been thinking about this since yesterday, who are y'alls "not trading back" for guys that wouldn't be reaches. Like, realistic possibly there at 29, not trade back guys.

Hairston, McMillian, Golden Loveland, Morrison, Thomas, Simmons is probably my first line.

Egbuka, Starks, Mannomori, Amos, Harris, Burden, Pearce, Eze I don't know but I'd probably want to drop.

I still think it's going QB 1,2,3 and it'll cause panic. Patriots have the most interesting pick, but if it goes QB like that, I see them drop back. Panthers are shopping their pick and they're right before NO who is QB needy. I could see NO going up 1 pick for Dart and then the Panther trading to the Steelers so they can get Milroe. No idea.

Could be a normal draft and bad QBs go day two, but I doubt it. Copycat league. DT is going to be over drafted because of the Eagles and I really think teams are going to not be patient and will come up for the QBs. Easy 4 QBs in top 10.

There are only 2 consensus top 10 DL, no CBs, no OTs, no WRs and outside of QB those are the positions you come up for.

I'm super high on Jeanty and Warren, but a RB and TE in the top ten? I'm not buying it.

Would I be right in thinking you don’t totally agree w/ Jeremy Green about Tuten having terrible vision?

I really like Green’s guy Tory Horton a lot. That combo of speed, ball tracking, short area movement and YAC, and on top of that a 2 year captain and he looks like a quality PR - that’s a lot of factors that seem like a great fit for us. But blocking concerns and the fact he’s projected in a dead space for us - right between our 2nd and 4th… don’t see it happening.

Green also makes it sound like Nohl Williams would be a great corner fit for us, but same problem in terms of where he’s projected to go.

I don't agree with a bunch of Greene's takes. He's very definitive in his takes and sometimes as I mentioned he's flat out wrong with some of them. It's one thing to have an opinion. It's another when you say Brandon Coleman is 340 pounds, too big to be a tackle on another podcast. That's just simply factually wrong.

But lol I don't hold it against him. He's very entertaining. My #1 criteria is listening to people who go out of their way to be entertaining. It's part of the reason why I love McShay. I love his enthusiasm when he talks about the draft. Greene's enthusiasm likewise is contagious. i don't agree with all their takes though but I think they bring great value to the draft from a fan standpoint -- because its become a bit more universal as far as fan interest, and guys like them do a good to foster that in their own way.

Dane Brugler for example is almost never factually wrong about any player. Doesn't mean his takes are all on the money. But wow does he do his research. He's a gem too IMO but for different reasons. But on podcasts he's fairly lifeless and at times even boring.

to show am not alone on Tuten, here are a series of scouts on him.

10. BHAYSHUL TUTEN, Virginia Tech (5-9, 206, 4.29, 3-4): Fastest back on the board. “He ran that 4.2 and you see that on the field,” one scout said. “He is the most explosive of all these guys. Runs hard, too. You get him in a crease or the open field and it’s over with. He’s the closest one to (Jahmyr) Gibbs as far as, if there’s a crease, it’s over. He’s in the mix as my No. 2 running back (in the draft).” Tuten’s vertical jump of 40 ½ also led the position. His broad jump was 10-10. “I’m a big fan,” another scout said before the combine. “After the combine things will change. He has a chance to run in the 4.3s. He’s talented.” Played his first two years at FCS North Carolina A&T. In two seasons, he carried 245 times for 1,578 (6.4) and 16 TDs to go with 41 receptions. In Blacksburg, he started 23 of 24 games, carrying 356 times for 2,022 (5.7) and 25 TDs to go with 50 receptions for 320 and four scores.

“He tested really well,” said a third scout. “Not particularly big. We thought he was a good backup in the fourth or fifth.” Returned 37 kickoffs for 25.7 and two touchdowns and five punts for 2.2. “I wasn’t a huge fan,” said a fourth scout. “He’s just one of those guys that’s a good football player with a pretty average set of skills. Not the biggest, not overly elusive but he’s got good vision, he runs hard and he’s a really good kid. He’ll be a guy where the starter gets hurt and he comes in and runs for 600, 700 yards as a No. 2 or No. 3. But I don’t ever see him being a No. 1 or No. 2 type guy.” From Paulsboro, N.J., where in high school he ran 60 meters in 7.03.

I agree on Horton, I think the knee injury had made him slide some and be in the background of discussions

McShay said today he thinks the Pearce fall might be stopped be the Falcons or Cincy. Will see. He is hearing the edge rushers will have a run early and the TEs and even Jeanty might fall a bit -- nowhere near our pick but further than the mocks.

He also said that NFL personnel people think the mocks have little imagination this year, and was insrtructed by one that for him to do better with his mock to get out of the groupthink with the mocks. It's one of many examples of the draft media being warned that their mocks are more off than usual this year.

I like the question but I'd rather the trade back regardless of who unless crazy like some top 10 guys. I want them to use the drafts strengths of rounds 2-4 to their advantage.

Yeah Horton as a mid round speed deep threat could be interesting. Supposedly high intangibles. Wish he was a little thicker-more physical.

Esery is one. He's the next Blue Chip type OT outside of Membou and Conerly to my eyes and has surpassed both Simmons and Banks for me personally. I would not pass up the chance to get a legit starter at a prime position that can handle either side. I also think he has the highest ceiling of any OT outside Membou. Ersery has been my biggest riser of any player or position in this draft for me. He has Orlando Pace type attributes.

  • Colston Loveland
  • Derrick Harmon
  • Mike Green
  • Kenneth Grant
  • Benjamin Morrison if completely sold on health
  • Shavon Revel - his character is excellent too and would take a chance even if not completely healthy yet

Pearce to Cincy would make a ton of sense. Almost too much. Their defense has held them back. They are likely not to retain Hendrickson long term. They have a long history of taking on character risks.

It's like Josh Simmons to Houston. I might almost book those two picks.

For your tier one

For me Thomas with that 4.6 speed, screams Breeland to me. I'd take him late 2nd at the earliest. I am not hung up on speed generally, the exception is corner, corners who run 4.6 are generally not special.

Hairston is very intriguing to me. I know we'd have a team of undersized corners but that dude is fast and feisty and sticky in coverage.

Golden -- great seperator. Very tempting for me if he's there.

McMillian: great catch radius, good hands. I think he'd be a good fit with Jayden. I'd take him.

Simmons: character concerns, injury concerns, easy pass.

Loveland: most of the reports I've seen except one from Albright indicates he's going top 20. I think these guys you mention could drop, I don't think so with Loveland. I don't agree with all of Logan Paulsen's takes. But I do agree with him on Loveland. You got Ertz part 2 with this guy. I love this player.

In this group if I had to take one -- toss up between Golden and Hairston, I'd lean Golden. Mcmillian the runner up. On the off chance Loveland falls, its easily him for me.

For your tier 2

Starks: Don't love him the way some in the draft media does. I like him though. But easy pass for me at 29. I don't really see why he's that much better than a series of other safeties in this class. 2nd round, I'd like it a lot.

Egbuka -- sneaky good. Not a sexy pick. But he's so solid and so fits the culture that I'd consider even at 29.

Emmanwori: Easy pass. But, If they take him, I am good with it because I assume they have a specific plan. But I can't get over how shacky a tackler he is. He's the type IMO you take in the 2nd not the first.

Ezeiruaku: I'd take him at 29, but I am not where it has to be him or bust like some in the fan base. Not sure i trust him against the run in the pros. But bendy with long arms, and a great aresenal of moves. If I had to take a bet I think they end up with him or Sourton or Harriston.

Burden: Not in the first but I could be talked into him in the 2nd. The character-ego stuff bothers me a little plus is he redundant with Deebo? But in the 2nd round, good value.

Amos: late 2nd is good value IMO. 29 feels too rich for me. I think he's a high floor CB but I'd be surprised if he ends up a shut down corner, comes off solid, Carlos Rogers part 2?

Pearce: If any of that character stuff is on the money, he's off the board. But if checks out, good get at 29. I got doubts with him as to stopping the run. High-cold motor, can that be coached out of him?

SIP, those trade options and a few more that will occur as teams draft replacements for others are why I expect Terry to get his new contract before Thursday. It should give AP more cap space to work with

As to mine. I don't think Loveland falls that far unless there is something to his injuries that Albright has hinted at it. But if he falls and his medicals check out, I'd take him.

Golden would be very tempting, but if I got a good trade offer, I think I'd trade down.

If Shemar Stewart dropped, I'd be tempted to take him, and not trade down.

That might be it for me.

Has all the tools and none of the production.

I really think Loveland could be transformative for our offense. Loveland playing out his career with Jayden, I think, means that you could stick almost anybody at WR, like the Chiefs. Loveland isn't going to fall, but he's one of the few guys I'd move up for, if he started slipping.

Good deal.

Yeah, obviously none of these analysts are anything remotely close to infallible. Green was just the most recent guy I heard talking Commanders specific draft stuff, so his comment on Tuten was fresh in my mind. I was just curious about how you viewed Tuten’s vision... it wasn’t meant as an “Oh yeah? Well Green says x”. Glad to see the scout commend his vision… even if I’m a little unsure about his comment about Tuten coming in as a number 2 but seeing him as a number 2, lol. I suppose he’s just pointing out that Tuten comes across like a really good change up back, which we could certainly use. If he becomes more, that’s icing on the cake.

And I’m with you on not holding the Coleman weight thing against Green - he’s looked at something like 1,000+ prospects since that time and more importantly, I think his view - that Coleman’s better suited to G - is probably fair (and probably the general consensus). Not that it matters - it’s about what our coaches think best serves the team. And to be fair to Coleman, performing like he did (within the positive range of rookie OTs, even if he was a bit rough), without much of an offseason was pretty impressive. Moving to RT could be perfect for him/us.

I don't understand the love for Stewart. I just can't get my head around it.

Has all the tools and none of the production.
I’m on the fence, but I lean positive. The large amount of pressures, how he was used at A&M, his attributes and run-stopping ability, plus the fact that his flaws are coachable, I can see why people love him. Legitimate question as to how much and how quickly he can improve his technique though. Definitely takes some projecting.

But I hear you in the sense that it seems like what we need most is a high end pass rusher, so I don’t love that he seems more of a 1st/2nd down type of rusher. OTOH, perhaps if they move him inside on 3rd downs, and if he can disrupt the qb even if the sacks don’t come, he could be a really nice addition (particularly factoring in our run game struggles). I could also see him being a nice pairing with Luvu. I think his floor is a really souped up version of Jalyn Holmes, who I thought did some good things for us and was a little bit of a chess piece for Whitt.

So I’d be a bit underwhelmed by the pick, but I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t take me long to get jazzed about his upside, the fact Peters/Quinn think he’s a fit, and how Whitt might use him to his best.

Yeah Horton as a mid round speed deep threat could be interesting. Supposedly high intangibles. Wish he was a little thicker-more physical.
Really small thing, but on one of his TDs, he eschewed his normal animated type of celebration, and instead ran over to some service men/women and pointed at them. Thought that was a pretty classy moment.

Forgot the DTs. I would add Harmon and Grant to my list as well.

Conerly, Simmons, EZ, Pearce, Harmon, Grant. Also I’ll take your word for it on Ersery.

No receivers, CBs or RBs make my list, partly because I always prefer an inside first build. **hashtag trenches**
