Tell the Truth Monday- Tennessee Edition

Dyami Brown is quietly taking over the WR3 position and I don’t hate it. He has shown nice YAC productivity though I still have concerns over the consistency of the C part.

Except that playing so badly doesn't happen in a vacuum. The defense put enormous pressure on Levis and that was some of the best and most violent tackling we've seen all year. Getting out to a quick 2 score lead made it very hard for them to do what they wanted to do on offense, which was to run the ball down our throats with their best weapon Pollard. They had to put the game on Levis shoulders and that was not what they wanted.
Some of it was us for sure. But the Titans dropped passes, missed throws, fumbled and committed penalties all game long. They were dreadful and they simply do not have a QB capable of engineering a big comeback.

Frankie Luvu is not just a good player he is a star. I don't see them breaking their cap for Parsons when we have a player who is in some ways similar. I can't wait for Adam Peters to continue to acquire impact players like Luvu and perhaps Sainristill.
his deal needs to be reworked asap to keep him in dc.

We're a different team with Brian Robinson.

If, or maybe I should say when we get to the playoffs, he is exactly the kind of running back you want lining up in the backfield.

He's a damned good RB when he's healthy. Yesterday was the first time he looked like the guy we thought he could be in quite awhile - and against a very good defense. If he can stay healthy the rest of the way, that would be huge.

pass defense looked like shit, but whatever floats your boat.
I think we all understand that the pass defense is the weak link of the team. I mean there are other areas, but this is the worst.
Yesterdays game showed us that if other aspects of the team play to their potential, then this doesn't matter so much. Not in the regular season anyway, but I think this may be the limiting factor in the post season when we start playing the legitimate big dogs. (That and out lack of receiving threats!)
I'm hoping we see a marked improvement in pass coverage when we get Lattimore in.

We tried to cover for that deficiency yesterday by pressuring the heck out of Levis. I think that unrelenting pressure had a lot to do with how bad Tennessee played. We saw a young struggling QB and we made life difficult for him by forcing him to speed up his processing.

Titans beat Houston last week so enough of the weak opponent crap.

Washington played better against the Steelers than the no account Cowboys so in part the team itself has the capability to be as good or as mediocre as it plays.

Focus and prep were a lot better this week after the Cowboys debacle.

But so was the health. Daniels looks like his Week 4 or 5 self.

Brian Robinson came back and averaged 6 yards a carry and 103 yards.

I also think we have found a right tackle for the remainder of the season in Cornelius Lucas. He doesn’t get pushed around like Wylie did against stronger DEs.

All the good news said, I am still looking at the stat sheet after these games as we come down the stretch and we still don’t see any late season emergence from Sinnott or McCaffrey.

2 catches for 13 yards.

1 catch for 3 yards.

For #2 and #3 picks we really need to see more.

Think about how diverse this offense would be if either player had stepped up and grown during the season.

Instead they both look like Ron’s former picks, merely looking to hold onto a roster spot.

Picks that high are usually not 2-3 year projects but players that are supposed to come in and be contributors, especially on a team coming off a 4-13 season with questionable depth otherwise at WR and TE.
As I watched the game again I had considered starting a Cornelius Lucas appreciation thread. He has played well every time they put him in, right or left side. And he's been doing that for as long as he has been in Washington. While I agree he is a better RT than Wylie he is too valuable as the only backup at LT to risk starting him at RT.

- I didn’t really like the Sainristil pick. I thought he was a pure slot CB and solid to good slot CBs are not hard to find (look how many starting slot CBS came out of this draft). He has proved me wrong however by showing he can play outside CB at a high level. For the guy wishing for Dejean, he has not shown the ability to play outside corner

- I sometimes enjoy listening to opposing teams’ podcasts. One guy pointed out we are in Cover 1 and Cover 3 playing man quite a bit vs league average. I assume Lattimore coming back will result in us allowing to play Chinn in the box more, which will help solve our run game woes

- I was watching the TB game closely. They are one of the teams we would lose a playoff tiebreaker against. Keep in mind that TB would lose a divisional tiebreaker to ATL so if all three teams tie, we are out as TB would get the wild card. We might get in at 9-8 but we need to try to get to 10-7 to really lock in a playoff spot. Beat NO and ATL and I think we are in. Would potentially allow us to rest guys against Dallas and give Detroit or Philly a run for their money

- NO losing Hill is huge. He is their #2 weapon at this stage and he opens up a lot for their offense. MVS is currently their WR1, meaning we should probably play a lot of man and attack Kamara. I should point out that Carr seems to be having a pretty good season despite the lack of receivers

Statistically, the pass defense is 5th ranked in yds given up, only 21st in TDs though. But that's much better than the rush D rankings, 27th in yds given up and 19th in TDs. So while I would agree that we need a couple of starting corners, they guys we have have done an amazing job in light of that.

I know stats don't always tell the whole story, but the D is smack dab in the middle of the NFL pack at 16th for both yds and points given up.

pass coverage is the weak point of the team in 2024.

You are free to have that opinion, but I just showed you stats that suggests it is not even our biggest issue on defense. I'm talking about UNIT play which is what the statistics reflect, not individual CB/S talent. The DBs are outperforming their talent level by a massive margin. We have struggled more against the run.

I could make a pretty strong case that our inability to get to the QB is our biggest problem. The DBs suffer a lot because we haven't been able to consistently pressure QBs. It all works together.

would have been great if the foot had been on the throat all game.
It would have been great but it was not likely since we were coming off a three game losing streak. I think it is great that we kicked ass for 3 of the 4 quarters.
