Team name...Post it all here

Probably, but we lost a lot of those fans anyway.

Decades of losing, scandal, and then tossing the history hardly kept our fanbase together. Anyone looking at our jersey sales or stadium ticket sales could see that the half-hearted name change did nothing to patch the leaky ship. Those pissed off enough to leave the team because we changed the name left. I doubt many stayed because at least we kept the colors and bastardized the fight song.

ders is kid friendly

Maybe to these types of kids.

I never want our team wearing anything but burgundy and gold. The Ravens are a completley different team that came decades after the Colts left, not the same thing to me.
Oh, me neither. I mean look at the name I chose lol.

But the colors are a reminder of what we lost. If we changed everything then at least we went all in. I view what Snyder did as another failed attempt because it was half-assed.

Harris & Co. aren't going to change the colors, but for whatever else can be gleaned from his comments here at the 18:50 mark:

There’s a good chance that my memory is shit but I remember Warriors and Wolves being problematic because of some bullshit about trademark issues with the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves, not because of any Native American imagery concerns. Asset rich and cash poor Snyder being unwilling or unable to fork over the money for that ‘fight’. Of course I could have that wrong.

I like Harris and believe in him. But his comments on the name change have always been and continue to be annoying ASF. We're 'doing the easy things like gold pants'. Seriously - you're equating 'gold pants' with the franchise name? And yeah, we know you are doing the 'easy things' - how about sack up and definitively let the fanbase know what your plans are? They've had plenty of time to 'study it' for God's sake.

I think Wright specifically cited trademark challenges, that's true, but there was also an outcry from the same 'advocacy groups' that pushed for the name change that 'Warriors' and 'Wolves' were Native American-themed and therefore culturally inappropriate. How much of an influence that had, who knows. I tend to think Snyder probably knew he was on the way out long before we think he did and just didn't give a damn at that point what the franchise's ultimate name ended up being, and to your point, definitely wasn't interested in spending a bunch of $$ to get the rights to one fans preferred.

And let's state the obvious... money never stopped Dan Snyder from getting what Dan Snyder wanted... so regardless of what the objections were, it was a lazy, careless, cheapskate, and uninspired effort all around.

That's how I remember it Chris. My two favourite choices too.

Yeah, I mean he could have always screwed his minority partners some more or fraudulently hidden more revenues from his league partners to fund the costs had he really given a damn about any transition to a ‘real’ name or the desires of all of the annoying fans.

Or released 'Girls of the Burgundy and Gold- XXX Edition' on dvd.

Too soon?

Redwolves is a no go for me
It has to be either Redskins or Braves with a small node to potentially Warriors. With the OLD logo.

If you want to go Redskins get the Blackfeet Tribe to approve the name and pay them an X amount of money yearly for the support
OK but what if Redwolves and Commanders were the only choices? Which would you prefer?

What a horrible predicament to be in.
:D
But isn’t that the predicament we are in? It may not be Redwolves. I get that not everybody likes that name, and that there isn’t a name that a consensus of fans would agree on. But let’s say, hypothetically, that studies were done and it is determined that redwolves is the most popular alternative. And that (again hypothetically) it has been determined that a return to Redskins is not in play…

My question to the board is, would you rather accept Redwolves (or whichever alternative name is deemed in studies/polling to be the most popular alternative among fans) or stick with commanders?

Redwolves, yes. Wolves, yes. Warriors, yes. Any other alternative, i’d have to know what it is. I wouldn’t automatically except any unknown based on surveys.

Redwolves didn't fare as well as some people might think in the latest survey, and I guess it would depend on what that alternative name was.
Hard to do worse than Commanders, and I'm not looking for a cheap or obligatory substitute for Redskins.

My opinion on this probably won’t be popular, but I think the biggest mistake they made was asking fans for their opinion. First off, they clearly didn’t listen and just did what they wanted. But secondly, all they did was get fans to attach to names that would never be chosen. Now fans are segmented into groups saying I want this name or I won’t support that name. I’m not in marketing and wouldn’t know how to do something like this. But I still think a better alternative than what they did would have just been to announce the new name, take their 15 minutes of criticism, then move forward. There would have been less attachments to any other names they tried to announce as choices and it would have been easier to accept becuase there would have been no other choices.

The caveat to all of this was it was done with the utmost incompetence with no hope of competence anywhere to be seen. So it was going to be messed up from the start by that group, and even if they just announced it without all the dog and not show, it would have been thoroughly screwed up. And yes I believe moving on to get away from anything associated with that group would be the right thing to do.

Redwolves, or Wolves are my picks. Warriors sound kinda corny. Plus all the wolf tie ins would be awesome.

I'll go a step further, they should have completely rebranded. By continuing with the B&G uniforms they basically tried to keep everything the same. If you squint and ignore the W it's the same team! That's the message they sent. Even more, they kept referring to former players like Riggo as Commanders. They kept the fight song thinking if they replaced just the name everyone would go along with it. Of course, it worked the exact opposite. Everything was close enough to the past we didn't want changed that it made us resentful and angry. As bad as the name Commanders is it had no chance because everything about the team cried out "We still want to be the Redskins."

If the new name was to have a chance they should have done a total makeover. New name, new color scheme, new records, new everything. The past stays the glorified and beloved past. In a way, that's what Harris has done so well. He gave the team permission to change everything. There's no legacy holdover on staff, roster, and they've changed the facilities and stadium as much as possible. Maybe that's why I responded so positively to seeing that Raise Hail banner. Our sentiment is no longer Hail to the Redskins. It's Raise Hail. However, we are still the Redskins. As long as we are B&G and as long as they play the Redskins fight song after scores and as long as we see those names in the Ring of Honor... we will hold onto to the name.

And frankly, we should. We are Washington Redskins fans. That's the pact we made when we became fans of this team and suffered through all the decades of losing and scandal for this team.

Now, I imagine there are Baltimore fans who remember whistfully being Colts fans, but the Ravens are so far removed from the Colts look and history (and so much time has gone by) that you never hear Baltimore Colts spoken anymore. It's just not a thing. Inevitably, that will be true here too, but it will be an easier transition with a true rebranding and not just an attempt to splash a new coat of paint on the walls.
You do realize the band for the ravens was called the baltimore colts marching band the first two years after they stole the browns from cleveland .

Agreed, but as Spurrier would say hindsight is 50-50. 😁

Given that it was done in such an incompetent manner, and that in the end it was presumably Snyder who picked the name, this is why moving forward I want to move on to literally anything else. I cringe at the idea of our franchise’s permanent name to be have been chosen by Daniel Snyder. 🤮🤮🤮

Most of us have accepted that Redskins isn’t coming back, so the choices are commanders or something new, that’s it. Whether it’s decided by a fan vote or a new marketing study done by actual competent people, I’m just curious how much momentum there is for moving on from commanders. May not love the new name, but It doesn’t seem possible to do worse with Snyder no longer involved.
