Despite the Blackfeet tribes best efforts, I'd be stunned if Redskins came back. So, that being the case, Redwolves. It's indigenous to the region. endangered, and would be make for a nice logo/mascot.

I would add to this in a small way. Being out here in Utah, we have a bit of experience with the names. After many side conversations, I can tell you, at least from this small part, the Redskins name had no negative impact with the few different tribes around here that I spoken with. Hell, many of them were wearing Redskins gear. Mind you, my experiences were mainly in football related situations.
With that, I would say that before any name change will even be considered, we have to have a winning program. Think of it as bang for buck. I suspect when all parties can profit from a switch, then Harris and company will push on this. IF Redskins were to make it back with what I am sure would be a detailed 'No Offense' structured plan to implement, it would be because we have a Super Bowl Trophy added to the case and our popularity would be through the roof. Thats a big IF.
Once we get rid of the mentality of a small group of people telling a large group of people how to think, we'll be able to settle down and come to a good, calm and reasonable name change that we, the fan base (which should be the driving force of the necessary decisions) can get behind.
For me, I will always be annoyed its not Redskins. So no other name will grab my heart to that end.

Moving on from Commanders would be a final phase of cleansing this organization of the last stench of Snyder. For that reason alone, I'm all for it. The name stinks, too, so that's an added reason.
William & Mary can be Tribe, Atlanta can be Braves, FSU can keep Seminoles and have a mascot donning full attire and riding a damn horse around the stadium, Chicago is still Blackhawks.......the list goes on. There's a way go back to a Native American theme without using Redskins, if the team wants to do so. I have no idea what that name should be, but pairing such a theme with a museum/educational center on stadium grounds could help.

Great discussion. I agree with a lot of the posters above… If we’re going to erase something from our history, it shouldn’t be the logo, it should be Snyder!

Seriously doubt that would happen with regards to the name. As far as the logo, it would be great to see it on the helmet again, and while I wouldn't bet on that happening either, Senator Daines from Montana has mentioned money associated with sales involving the logo could go towards a Missing Indigenous Women's fund.
Ryan Wetzel tweet after Daines ( who initially resisted until he and the Wetzels were satisfied ) signed off on the stadium bill.

The Harris Group has already said, multiple times and emphatically that 'Redskins' is not coming back. If you are still calling for that, I don't know what to tell you. As Jim Croce once said...

When the 'Redskins' name was retired, the NFL made it clear that they had bought into the idea that Native Americans should not be used as mascots and that the use of Native American imagery was not something they pined for. The franchise itself gave the reason that 'Warriors' and 'Wolves' were unacceptable or problematic because *some* saw those names as having Native American ties (an idea that is patently ridiculous but those points were made at the time). So I think anything remotely 'native' is going to be a non-starter. That goes for the name, logos, uniforms, etc... It's just not going to happen.
The league/team may eventually cave on the 'legacy' issue, using the logo and name when making historical references. I think it's more likely the team may make some accomodations to avoid alienating a portion of the fanbase. But we are still seeing the league 'edit out' references to the 'Redskins' and even the logo, perhaps not 100% of the time, but in some settings.
Let me preempt the obvious comeback... 'what about the Chiefs?!'.
We all know why the NFL has yet to go there. You are talking about THE dominant and most popular team in the NFL right now. If you are the league, and you think 'Redskins' was an epithet and racist name, you HAVE to push for it to change. I don't believe it was ever those things, but from the league's perspective if you did, or even if you felt significant portions of the populace could view it that way, you have to push for it to change. 'Chiefs', whether we want to admit it or not, is far more generic. There is nothing like a supposed reference to skin color in that name. Yes, some aspects of that 'brand' such as fans doing Tomahawk chops, or humming 1940's era Native American chants, could be viewed as wildly offensive. But the NFL probably views that as fan behavior they can't control.
I would be surprised given the societal evolution of how such things are viewed if eventually Kansas City isn't also forced to change their name. Ditto other sports teams like the 'Braves'. I just think it's the direction our society is moving in and all of the shouting at the sky with clenched fists may not change that.
I have said it many times. The biggest mistake that the Jason Wright administration made when handed the impossible task of renaming a beloved franchise was that they tried to do the impossible - rename the team while maintaining it's history and traditions while also trying to stay away from anything Native American-themed. That was never possible. And their heavy-handed and clumsy attempts at pulling it off failed miserably and made a very unhappy situation for fans 1000x worse than it needed to be.
The best thing they could've done having decided the bandaid needed to be removed was to rip that sucker off, select a new name that had as much fan support as possible (for me, that was always Wolves or Warriors) and never look back. Forget about Native American ties since that was at the root of all of this drama and turmoil (and would continue to be) and go with something new and unrelated. The ties to the city of Washington and team colors would be enough to hold the fanbase together and just move forward with a new identity.
Instead they tried desperately to tiptoe down the middle of the road with a 'safe' name no fans wanted or supported. And we all know what happens when you try to walk down the middle of a highway with angry drivers speeding by from both directions.

I'll go a step further, they should have completely rebranded. By continuing with the B&G uniforms they basically tried to keep everything the same. If you squint and ignore the W it's the same team! That's the message they sent. Even more, they kept referring to former players like Riggo as Commanders. They kept the fight song thinking if they replaced just the name everyone would go along with it. Of course, it worked the exact opposite. Everything was close enough to the past we didn't want changed that it made us resentful and angry. As bad as the name Commanders is it had no chance because everything about the team cried out "We still want to be the Redskins."
If the new name was to have a chance they should have done a total makeover. New name, new color scheme, new records, new everything. The past stays the glorified and beloved past. In a way, that's what Harris has done so well. He gave the team permission to change everything. There's no legacy holdover on staff, roster, and they've changed the facilities and stadium as much as possible. Maybe that's why I responded so positively to seeing that Raise Hail banner. Our sentiment is no longer Hail to the Redskins. It's Raise Hail. However, we are still the Redskins. As long as we are B&G and as long as they play the Redskins fight song after scores and as long as we see those names in the Ring of Honor... we will hold onto to the name.
And frankly, we should. We are Washington Redskins fans. That's the pact we made when we became fans of this team and suffered through all the decades of losing and scandal for this team.
Now, I imagine there are Baltimore fans who remember whistfully being Colts fans, but the Ravens are so far removed from the Colts look and history (and so much time has gone by) that you never hear Baltimore Colts spoken anymore. It's just not a thing. Inevitably, that will be true here too, but it will be an easier transition with a true rebranding and not just an attempt to splash a new coat of paint on the walls.
