I will say that I was surprised how "light" practices were when I attended. The first time I went I expected to be awed and expected them to do things at a rate I could not possibly do. There was a ton of downtime and just standing around and that was with Gibbs! So, while I'd actually be for more two-a-days and think it actually would benefit the modern player, the problem is not with the coaches or training staffs, but the players' union. The deal they negotiated enforces a very small number of two-a-days and limits even padded practices. I think this is a hell made out of good intentions as I think more practice would benefit teams early in the season. So many start the year where their first few regular season games are about as sharp as preseason ones used to be. This is obviously even more true for teams with first year coaching staffs. You can't drill something into muscule memory if you hardly drill.
