Sights and Sounds - 2024 Training Camp - Twitter Heavy

I think that's a little 'glass half empty' given the context. Literally everything has changed with this organization. Predicting great things of a rookie QB is obviously a fools errand. Of course, until the young man has done something on the actual field of play, it's all conjecture. But assuming nothing will change (when literally everything has changed) is equally spurious.

Everybody looks good in shirts and shells or throwing into a net with a coach running at you.
Been alot of empty promises over the years.

Just need to see something tangible.

I dunno. Haskins looked bad in a shirt and against the net. We've had some pretty ugly looking preseasons.

My point was not necessarily that Daniels is going to pan out and be the next whoever. My point was more the last 5 guys who've been brought in as "the guy" have all entered with somewhere between a "meh" and "that will never work" type of a feeling from the fanbase.

This is different. This is really the first time since Griffin when you could honestly say there is a QB who has all the skills to be a top 10 QB. Even Cousins, when he got the job, was met with skepticism.

Right now, it's just different:

- Different than Griffin: Humble to a fault (at least outwardly), going through the process, not outwardly seeking attention and by all accounts, a very hard working student of the game. Griffin was "look at me" from the moment he was drafted, and never had the discipline to learn the game, he was fixated on using his physical skills alone. That won't get it done in the NFL.

- Different than Cousins: has more physical skills in his left leg than Cousins has in his entire body. Better arm (even though Daniel's arm isn't a cannon, much better mobility.

- Different than Alex Smith (when he got here): Smith is actually the best comp, because Smith had as good if not better arm, and not as much athleticism, but REALLY GOOD athleticism. There was a reason he was (at one point) drafted #1 overall. However, Smith came in with a long reputation of being an above average game manager. Daniels comes in with a reputation of being a game changing playmaker. Will that hold? Who knows. But it's a difference.

- Haskins (RIP) came in as a guy who was immediately tied to the owner and Jay (and probably Kyle Smith also) made it damn clear he wasn't ready to play. As did the national media.

- Fitzpatrick. I forgot one thing about Fitzy: he had some powerful facial hair. Daniels does not have powerful facial hair.

There really isn't a reason to comment on the differences between Daniels and Wentz, Hienicke and Howell.

Add to that, Dan is gone, Bruce is gone, and (thank God almighty) Jay is gone, and even Don Ron is gone. The old cast of never going to be's are all gone. Jay was sneaky horrendously amazingly terrible.

The feeling NOW is different. Always in motion the future is. So we have no idea what will happen. But this IS different.

For the first time in a long time fans can have a valid hope that Lucy will not pull the football away at the last moment.

I am not going to deny myself the opportunity to feel true anticipation & excitement for the potential possibilities ahead. What’s the worst that can happen? Same shit, different day? Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. I have been forged by steel for that eventuality so…whatever.

A few twits I haven't seen posted:

I could be wrong, but I am fine with losing out on Aiyuk.
I am on record saying I think Dotson can be a mighty fine receiver and last years offense suboptimized everything.

If true, Terry and Dotson will be a really good receiving pair. And there is no need to trade assets and then pay big money for a very good receiver.

If we had been talking about Tyreek Hill or James Jefferson, I’d think differently. But Aiyuk is not one of those guys.

If Dotson proves me wrong, then fine, you go shopping next year.

Some twits from today:

Eeek:

Maybe Kickers aren't people too?

Swiss Army Knife Eckler

On it's surface, one would've thought they'd keep Armani, but Achilles ruptures are very difficult to come back from. They may have done the math there and felt he was too big a risk. Then again, Ertz, Sinnott, and Bates are a pretty strong top 3 so it may have been an uphill battle for him to make the 53 to begin with.

Also, it’s tough to tell how good he actually was. Did he have some promise? Maybe. But no faith in the previous regime in talent evaluation or development.

That combined with injury + drafted a guy = buh-bye. It was really just a matter of time, unless he killed it and looked like Tony Gonzalez from the start of camp.

Hard to tell, but it sounds like the first scrimmage against the Jets was a little rough.

To be expected. That is a team that has been together and has aspirations to compete in one of the tougher divisions in the league. They should be ahead of us.

That sucks.

ESPN Sources: surgery on J.J. McCarthy’s torn meniscus revealed that a repair was necessary and the Vikings rookie quarterback now will miss the 2024 season. While the Vikings are disappointed, they “strongly believe he will come back better and have a long, successful NFL career”, as one team official said. But rookie season is over.

More insight into the McSorley signing.

Looks like both Mariota AND Hartman are unavailable for Saturday.

It makes sense. Today is essentially a 'lost' practice day if you look at it from the perspective of installing the offense, so bringing in a guy who's been in Klingsbury's offense to be able to lessen the learning curve for the rest of the guys on the field is smart.

and even more information about the Byrant signing

SIgh. I had high hopes it was just a sophomore slump and Dotson could get his act together. He still can, but sigh...
