Sights and Sounds - 2024 Training Camp - Twitter Heavy

Deebo like? 🤣

I’d buy Antonio Gibson-like, maybe Curtis Samuel-like.

I imagine he meant in terms of versatility.

A guy who can take a handoff, then line up outside the next play and run a go route.

Yeah, I know what he meant but kind of a funny comp. Like if JWJr had comped Davis to Parsons.
I am not sure I like keeping Jamin Davis and then getting KJ Henry lost to the Bengals. In my mind, risking Davis would have been the better course of action.
I am not saying it is a cut-and-dry type of thing, but I don't know that Davis has done enough with his opportunities to warrant this; in fact, it is the opposite with some of the off-field stuff too.

Talent + Intelligence as a combination matters, making smart decisions on and off the field should probably matter to some degree. For me and what I can see, I guess I would have gone with KJ here. As I said though, not a cut-and-dry position.

Davis' physical skills are elite. He had almost no real coaching in college and started for one season at Kentucky, one of the pillow fight teams at the bottom of the SEC.

No way he was going to pass through waivers.

I look back to LaVar Arrington. He couldn't master pass coverages and reading defenses, but if you put him on the edge and ask him to do one thing and focus on that the results were double digit sacks.

That is what Quinn and Co. are counting on here. Breaking things down and allowing Davis to use his physicality to make an impact on the defense.

It seems of the national media only Stephen A. Smith ironically enough seems to have the gauge that Daniels is special and has a chance like Caleb Williams to far out pace the other passers taken in the draft.

I make it a rule to never pay attention to the national media about anything. Whoever it is.

You have really 2 camps in the national media: News Breakers and Opinion Creators. There is a third group, analysts, but honestly, they've become a dying breed, and somewhat morphed into opinion creators.

For the news breakers (Schefter, Rappaport, whoever), you have to keep in mind how they get their information: they get it by doing favors and horse-trading info. They get info from teams and agents, and in exchange for that info, they push narratives the teams/agents want pushed.

The Opinion people are simply looking for eyeballs. Stephen A. Smith is the best of this lot, but it's all news magazine show crap which is intended to be provocative and stand out so they can get people to pay attention. Also, none of them have he time to fully educate themselves on the details of what they are having an opinion on. How can you REALLY understand the nuances of all 32 football teams and players on those teams to form true opinions of anything? You can't. So, you get a lot of group-think, and then you have them trying to out-do themselves to be the most provocative.

There used to be good analysts. There are really few left. Here and there you'll find a show where you can actually learn something, but those are now far and few between. There were several back in the 90's and 2000's, but the problem with them is, it's a much smaller audience who really likes the detailed analysis vs. the audience who wants to hear Stephen A. or Pat Macafee rant and rave about stuff. So, they're going the way of the dodo.

From my vantage point, I have seen a bevy of national media voices be very positive about Daniels and expecting him to be special. Even some who project him to be the best of the lot at the position. Caleb Williams gets the most love for wins on the season though because he is surrounded by superior talent, and rightly so.

The tone of all but a few NFL talking heads (Mike Florio primarily) has noticeably changed since Adam Peters and Dan Quinn came to town. I agree with Chris, we are getting much more positive press, at least for the moment, than we've grown accustomed to receiving. That being said, expect us to be rarely picked to win on the Sunday pre-game shows until we show we are significantly better on the field.

Yeah i've seen a lot of positivity around Daniels. I believe last week someone on ESPN was asked about OROY and they had it going

1. Caleb
2. Jayden
3. Bo Nix

2nd in OROY rankings isn't exactly a slight. It means he's expecting a big season.
