Haskins did struggle. He was struggling all the way up until this unfortunate accident. That's not mean. It's just true.

To say the man struggled in the NFL is pretty much his entire career. Was he supposed to write a eulogy? Sorry, but it's all the man was known for after college.

Does anyone know his parents names? Siblings? That's my point. I don't like idiot athletes talking about how things should be better when most of them are the problem.
 
He stated facts. Some people only know those facts he posted. He's a sports writer writing about an athlete who struggled.

This has nothing to do with being woke and everything to do with being a decent human being. The announcement of Haskins death through a breaking news tweet isn’t the place to do that. Good people generally are respectful around announcements of someone’s death. Schefter wasn’t here. Now the story is about Schefter and athletes calling him out instead of the tragedy of a 24 yr old who we all knew of that died this morning. Schefter got what he wanted. He got his name in the news even when the story was about someone else’s tragedy.

Didn't take it personally until you didn't want me commenting on something someone else posted.

But, it is what it is. I actually read my first comment and then my replies after.
 
I posted the tweets, and maybe I shouldn't have.

The point was that a former player was killed in a tragic accident and a lot of us felt some of the stuff included in the report was unnecessary. Yes it's a fact he struggled but what's the point of saying it? I'm not saying Schefter was trying to intentionally take a shot, but it served no purpose being included in the breaking of the news...
 
Incredibly sad. So many thoughts…

- hoping against hope it was fast and painless.
- the parents, going through the unimaginable.
- the extended family and friends.
- the truck driver, who’s alive, but who’s life as he knew it is over.
- all the people, like me, who thought and said so many disparaging things about a kid over how well he did or didn’t play football.

Perspective.

What a life he lived. He got to the top of the mountain in college football, got to experience the NFL, and the joys of fatherhood. There was turbulence, too, all lives contain them, but as with any life taken by accident. The saddest thing is the potential lost and the pain of those who are left behind to mourn him.
 
Mr. Haskins was walking on a limited access facility (Highway/expressway) for unknown reasons. He was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595 when there was oncoming traffic. Unfortunately, he collided with an oncoming dump truck. Mr. Haskins was pronounced dead on scene," the agency announced Saturday morning.
 
It was reported that a "traffic homicide investigation" is open.
Maybe that's some form of protocol, but it's quite possible the dump truck slightly veered onto the shoulder. All it takes really is a few inches off, to result in a pedestrian death like that.
 
My dad died in his car parked on the street listening to the radio. Cops knew he did that at night not to disturb anyone inside, but because he passed away on a public road they had to investigate it as a homicide.
 
As a father of 2 young men, I am sad for his family. I couldn't imagine the pain that they are feeling.
RIP young man.
