Yep, memory serves you well. Boone and I both brew from time to time.

Hey tshile - yes Bob and I both brew. I have not made beer in quite awhile either. I need to get back to it. I typically use glass carboys but I did buy a plastic brew system that allows you do remove the trub and never have to transfer the beer during the brew process that works amazingly well. As I am getting older the demands of moving full 5-6 gallons+ is something it’s nice to avoid having to do.

I once threw out an entire batch of oatmeal stout because I thought it was ruined. I had never tasted one before. I did an all grain batch and despite adding rice hulls my Sparge got hopelessly stuck. It took me an hour of messing with it to finally get the wort drained. When it was finished I tasted it and immediately ‘knew’ I’d contaminated the batch with all the screwing around I’d done with it. Poured it out. A couple months later a friend bought me one of the best Oatmeal Stouts available at a bar. It tasted just like what I’d thrown out.

I guess that’s why they say relax, stop worrying, and have a homebrew :)

I’ve done plastic buckets and glass carboys. Glass carbons are my favorite. I like watching the yeast, it’s quite the show.

I’m not talking about buckets. This is the system I bought.

Once primary fermentation is done, you open that valve and the trub and spent yeast flows into the jar. You can harvest yeast cakes if you want to keep your own yeast supplies, but the bottom line is that there is no need to move the wort. You can put any size mason jar on it.and bottle or keg without moving the beer. It’s a really clever design.

Nice I’ve seen those

I was just more commenting that I’ve done it all sorts of ways.

Does that one have a way to be pressurized? I’ve been out of it so long idk how new or common knowledge this is, but wyest people came and gave a demonstration to one of the local brew clubs around here - you can now ferment lagers without any of the cooling equipment, no more temp step downs or cold crashing. If you ferment under 15 lbs of pressure, you can use lager yeast and it works great.

Or so they say. I’m skeptical but certainly they are experts and I’m no where near an expert on this stuff 😆

Well. First brew in like 4ish years or so. Definitely need to clean up my process a bit better. Didn’t help I picked an oatmeal stout as my first brew back in it. Took 5 hours and has lots of steps to get where it needs to go.

And as usual my efficiency is just way higher than what recipes are calculated for, this 6.8 beer is going to be a hell of a lot stronger with a 1.072 OG. 😆

It’s burping quite a bit for 12 hours in.

Also, checked out the kegerator cause I never finished it. Thankfully I did the vast majority of work already. Just need to mount things like the co2 distributor and drill holes for the taps.

Adding to my list of sentences I never imagined writing…

The Florida Panthers have arrived in Finland for a two game series with the Dallas Stars.

Wow! Good for him. I hope he's well.

Today marks the 90th day since my ambulance ride while experiencing a stroke. General belief within the medical community is that the majority of improvement occurs within the first 90.

I would estimate that I have so far recovered to about 95% of my pre-event condition. Though I would readily admit that I am most likely more sensitive to noticing any little thing throughout the day and placing that under a mental microscope than previously.

All in all…I consider myself very lucky to have come out the other side with little to no negative consequences and I am looking forward to continuing to be the best me possible spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

Thanks to those of you here who took the time to express thoughts of support at the time and especially to John (Boone) for being a resource, a sounding board, a brother confessor, and most importantly a friend throughout this experience. ❤️

Glad you are recovering well. Here’s to full recovery and no more incidents

You are welcome brother - you would do the same for me!

Man - such a scary experience. I am so glad that you have not let the experience keep you down, that you have recovered so well and come back so strong, although I will also say I am not even the least little bit surprised given your great attitude, work ethic, and strength.

Congrats on such an amazing recovery. None of us know when life will throw us a curveball but you hit yours right out of the park! Love you brother.
