ES was totally dead on a Saturday from what I remember.

itll take time. i had never heard of this place until i saw a post in reddit.....and the only time ive ever gone to reddit is when es was down.

Its the same forums es used so I like it. Thats what i dont like about warpath or reddit or other team forums. They are different in a bad way and they seem less streamlined for some reason

There are quite a few and most introduced themselves in one way or another.

Human nature tells me that post activity will increase after a loss. 😎

Reddit and most social media sites are drive-by sites. Spit out a 2 sentence take and react to other 2 sentence takes. A real messageboard or community forum is a different beast. I 100% understand that 'forums' are a dying breed. We stubbornly refuse to die.

i think most people are finding there way here by a reddit post. Im guessing majority of es posters are old guys and have no idea what reddit is and are calling comcast complaining the internet isnt working

Alot of them are here, 120+ according to Boone. Also, many of them changed their names.

From the sound of things many prefer to lurk for a couple years before joining & posting. lol.

I also didn’t realize that message boards like this were considered “archaic” until I went to Reddit and several youngins couldn’t understand why anyone would want to “hang out” on a forum. Just one more sign that I’m getting old I guess.

I have talked about this quite a bit, and the analogy I use is that social media is to forums as McDonalds is to that family run Italian Restaurant you loved growing up.

People seem to prefer drive-by posts, relative anonymity, and group think. Social media algorithms show you what they determine you want to see. It can really slant one's world view. Forums are much more relationship-based, allow for in-depth conversations of no predetermined length, with a wide range of diverse opinion.

But yeah, forums generally speaking, have really declined in number.

To finish the birthday saga, the party for my sister's 60th and dad's 90th birthday went well. They were blown away by the cake. I wanted to do something really special and took my inspiration from the show Is It Cake, but my first design attempt drew an estimate of $960 and I refused to spend almost as much on a cake as I did my first used car. Luckily, they loved the winner!

In candor, I just designed it, but did not bake or build it. I will say though when I got to the bakery to pick it up, the person at the cashier went "Wow!" when she let me preview the cake. I was really pleased with everyone's reaction. I will probably never spend $200 on a cake again, but how often does your dad turn 90 (or your sister turn 60). ---- My first concept was to blend loves, my dad is a big science fiction nerd like me and my sister has really gotten into audio so I put together an At At (Walker from Empire Strikes Back) whose side was an audio mixing board. It would have been so cool... but I can't do a thousand for a cake and even if I could... I just couldn't.

Yeah to me it's weird. I started posting on message boards in the 90s on websites like hardware Central and overclockers because I was really into building PCs at the time so it is the original networking for me and I never took it too seriously. 1/2 of it was cracking jokes on whatever or whoever back then. I never made a Twitter account so that probably tells you something.

I guess that a lot of people just want to throw their opinions out there without any sort of feedback. Seems weird and antisocial.

When ES died I tried X and reddit. On message board you get to know the posters. Those other platforms is just random comments by drive by posters you will probably never engage with again.
