Not that I'm disagreeing but what would you suggest the NFL do?

The NFL never should have changed its stance on gambling and affiliated itself with a business that could put the integrity of game results on the line. I don’t know that there is anything they can do now.

The overwhelming number of commercials for sports betting is one thing. The pregame shows all having segments dedicated to betting props is another. Once the NFL and the other major sports leagues opened that Pandora’s box…well the future is now.

Why even bother to play this stupid game...or games? I don't even know what it is any more. The League should treat the Pro Bowl like the AP All Pro list. Just make it a list of players without the actual game. Being a pro bowl player now is so watered down, and has been for decades.

I can't agree with that. There is no reasonable justification for not putting him through on the first ballot. First of all, 90% of the hate Belichick and the Patriots get is pure jealousy. They dominated the NFL in ways no one had seen since the Packers in the 60's and the 49ers in the 80's. And it wasn't ALL just Tom Brady.

I get people have a problem with the supposed 'cheating' but I think a lot of that is overblown and even what did occur was dealt with as the NFL saw fit at the time. That should not be a legitimate barrier to giving one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time his due.

I think it's embarrassing (and not for Bill Belichick, but for the NFL).

Really though, I'm surprised. I wonder how much his post-Brady failures counted on top of his "cheating." More likely, the reporters who vote for HOF wanted to punish him the same way they did Art Monk for not being accessible and cuddly enough.

I have not read it anywhere so I'm taking a flyer here but this might be a Gibbs thing. There was a great deal of angst over a guy in the HoF coming out of retirement to coach again when Gibbs came back. I seem to recall that there was concern that Parcells might come back when they were deliberating on him. No one wanted the Gibbs situation to be repeated.

Belichick is obviously a HoF coach but he is still coaching. Granted, it's at the college level but he is still coaching, and hasn't ruled out a return to the NFL that I have seen.

Actually, at least one of the major gossip stories was Polian, who is in the voter group - the claim was that he was doing the whole "standing on a chair" bit against Bellichick (as many remember, he was the GM of the Bills and Colts during that tenure and obviously had quite a rivalry with the Bellichick Pats in that timeframe).

However, I read some quotes by Polian where he said he didn't do that at all, and he said he was surprised that anyone said that about him. Interestingly, he said (originally) that he "thinks" he voted for Bellichick and Greenwood. It was a weird quote. Now he is saying that he is 100% certain that he did. It's a bizarre sequence driven by the media attention.

Let me be clear, he should have been a unanimous first ballot HOF inductee.

So I don’t necessarily mind him being snubbed. Mostly because the people who vote for this are either media members he was rude to.

But the HOF totally screwed this up. He should have been put in without any question.

I think he is referencing Art.
Meaning: tough beans, now you (nfl in general) know how it feels when someone stupidly is kept out.

The voters are very, very good…. at proving how stupid they can be.
