Some will view citing our ridiculous # of injuries as 'excuse making' but I just don't think you can ignore that as a huge factor in how the season is going so far. Note I didn't say the only reason, but to pretend that the available talent coaches have to work with is not a primary factor I think would be a mistake.
This is a somewhat complicated subject for me, but I agree. The reason it's complicated is because I refused to give Jay a lot of leeway when his teams had a lot of injuries. The difference, however, might just be messaging.
Quinn OPENLY is saying injuries are a factor, but not the reason they are losing. He points to other things (turnovers, penalties, missed assignments, play style) which he says are unacceptable. I appreciate all of this.
Jay was just ho-hum, lots of injuries, dear me what am I going to do? Guess I'll stick my thumb up my butt and call a running play for 0 yards on first down for 3 years. That didn't work? Ok, let's try 2 fingers and the same play. Such a dumbass. But I digress.
So, when people tried to say, "but the injuries!!!" with Jay, I always like, "frowny face, I don't care. At least give the illusion that you are trying something to get around them."
But there is also no question injuries have played a huge role in the team this season, the record, the preparation, etc. And it can't be ignored.
And as long as Quinn doesn't start using it as an excuse, I think it's fine to consider it important context to our situation.
