I'm all in on Warthogs, and i'm convinced it's not happening.... it just makes too much sense to me. I don't want a spin on the Razorbacks logo either. It's got to be a new brand. In fact, i would almost prefer it be more centered around the A-10 than the actual animal, but the animal can be done tastefully, not cartoony, and be unique. The colors are easy to integrate with our current scheme, the link to arguably the most defined identity any NFL team has had, and none of the the major sports teams or colleges share the name. Branding is an open book.

A friend of mine says he's hoping for Commanders because then we can refer to every player as "Commander <last name>"

"Commander Gibson, down the sidelines ... TOUCHDOWN!"

:D
If we go commanders can we be cobras?

You could also adapt the fight song to work with Warthogs …

The funny thing is that this subject is the only thing they have going. This thread alone is the only one here in weeks that has garnered even modest fan attention.

The organization is like a girl posting provocative photos online to feel relevant.

Same friend opined that perhaps this announcement of the announcement was made to distract from the stadium visibly falling apart again.

One of the many problems with how they’ve handled this is the insistence they have to somehow tie the new name into history and tradition. You pretty much screwed the pooch on that when you removed the name, ditched the band and cheerleaders, etc…

It would be better if all possible names were on the table and you were starting clean.

To make matters worse, they're announcing the name on The Today Show.

They can't even exploit a money making opportunity correctly. That show airs in the middle of morning rush in the DC area... we're literally going be leading, or following, punxsutawney phil and whether or not he see's his own shadow. I guess it's poetic that it's announced on Groundhog day, as we've been living it for 30 years.

IF they're hellbent on that date, why not open the stadium, or the practice facility for outdoor viewing, in the middle of prime time for fans to come in and witness the launch? Lock down half of the area until the announcement is made, and as soon as you do, open it up to merchandise sales. ZERO fan experience, ZERO fan inclusion, ZERO being 'in touch.' Why not have current and former players dawning their jerseys? Coming out and talking up the team? I try to be objective, and not get wound up too much around the off the field stuff, but man they just can't seem to get anything right. It's getting exhausting caring so much about something that legit does not care back.

They’re afraid to do it front of fans because odds are they’re gonna get booed off the stage.

yeah but I'd still find myself wanting to have some sort of connection. You leave the door for the Hoggettes to keep with the team. You have historical media referencing the team name for the last 40 years.

When it comes to PR planning, can you think of a single thing they’ve handled extremely well since Wright took over? I don’t expect this to be any different. If they somehow manage to knock this out of the park, I’ll give them kudos but I don’t expect it.

The sad thing is, this may be the actual reason....

Maybe we are the groundhogs?? Living the same f'ing nightmare for 20 years - seems relevant to the movie

“I don’t want to ruffle any feathers,” Gruden said. “But they should’ve never changed the name in the first place.”

Gruden opened his appearance on the show by sarcastically asking the hosts, Chris Russell and Pete Medhurst, “Are you guys just trying to figure out the new name? It's so exciting.” He then added, “I don’t think anybody really cares other than you guys.”

One of the hosts then replied, “And Jay, believe me, we don't care either.”

I actually don't hate Gruden for once.

He couldn't be MORE wrong about people not caring. Most fans care pretty intensely.

He probably meant optimistic instead of caring. Like excited for the new name in a positive sense.

He’s not wrong about it never should of changed tho
