OMG! Cerrato OUT, Bruce Allen IN

serv, those thread stats speak to the eternal optimism of the BGObsessed!

danny's veiled admission that the organization needs a change, Coach Allen's son coming home to oversee the salary cap and the impending hiring of a coach who will handle personnel? we can only hope they can bail water from this ship quickly and catch a tailwind...

ryan o'halloran on 106.7 says the players can't stop laughing because the focus at redskin park is on the daily soap opera, not on winning.

that's how you get to 4-9.

who will be the first to land an in-depth interview with cerrato?

wise?

wilbon?

oprah?

Christmas has come early!!

I have no idea what this big announcement later today will be but I definitely do not want Holmgren as a GM. His record of making picks as a GM is just horrible. I'm not going to think about that now though. This is great news!!!

early momentum/ speculation seems to be favoring holmgren...
shany is the one that scares me -- i was in denver when he got those two Lombardis. he seemed like a genius back then. for him to fall so far makes me wonder if his time has passed.
Ditto to both of the above. Both guys are good coaches but bad personnel evaluators. Shanahan never got another SB and was ultimately fired because he didn't have the right personnel. Holmgren was given an ultimatum over the same issue.

I'd like Shanny as HC, if only we can convince him to leave personnel to someone who hopefully knows what he's doing.

I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that Vinnie Cerrato has resigned.

The bad news is that Dan Snyder is now the GM. :toilet:
...and that would be different from the previous arrangement, how? :joker:

One was probably Randle El, since he'd gonna be out of a job soon
Nahh, my money's on Portis. He's already got plenty of OJT experience, having been our "shadow GM" for several years. Plus you know how the Danny hates to pay people he fires. Snyder's going to want to get some value out of all that guaranteed moolah he owes "Sowf-eas" Jerome. :)

When I watch this team play I can't stop laughing either. :D

OK, I just got home and haven't been privy to this info all day. Needless to say, it hadn't sunk as I read through this thread until I saw Bruce Allen's photo with the Redskins logo behind him on ESPN. Although it was not quite the same reaction as I had when Gibbs was rehired 6 years ago, I almost teared up a little anyway!

I think this is something we should all be celebrating! But does anybody else get the feeling the Master Marketer has struck again! I would even wager he did it before the last two home games in an effort to boost merchandise and consesssion sales for the end of the season!

Regardless, let us rejoice in this day! Ding dong the witch is dead, the wicked witch is dead! (Of course I say that in jest...well, mostly)

Thanks Boone, still debating a twitter account. The problem was that I didn't have my phone with me because I usually check to see what's happening here with it.

HTTR!

Football just became fun again. That glimmer of hope has become a down right sparkle.

No more then 24 hours ago, I told my cousin that I may never get to see a winning team again in my lifetime with ol bug eyes in the drivers seat, and Snyder as owner....

I gotta go smoke a stogie, and sip some wine to calm myself.

how many people out there think that part of Allen's hiring might be because he is George's son and it will appease us?

"oh look, one of our own in here." and calm us down.

I know I kind of think that..

The thought has crossed my mind...but the fact remains he has been an NFL executive for successful teams, and has a lot of on the job experience. I'm willing to give him a shot. The bad news is it'll be a few years before we see anything concrete. Sigh.

Mike, when I watched the press conference with Snyder and Allen and Snyder started talking about the "heritage" the same thought popped into my head as well-of course I viewed Gibbs II as partly motivated by the same thing. I think one of the worst things Snyder has done is to instill a level of cynicism that has seeped over into Redskin fandom-we question motives with every move, usually with good reason because we've been let down too many times in the past decade. One can only hope, I guess, that this time he's seen the light, or more accurately the weight of historic fan unrest has forced him to see the light and Allen, whoever winds up handling player personnel and whoever winds up as HC..etc. will have enough free reign to bring elite status back to the Redskins. Maybe I'm just engaging in wishful thinking, too.

And down deep in the recesses-down where the demons live, down where the fear of another betrayal lurks-a thought bubbles.

Could this be Marty, part II?

It crossed my mind that he made this hire as part of a nostalgic connection to past glory. But I think it was less about pleasing the fan base as it was to please Dan, the fan. I think this was a nostalgic influenced, but not a nostalgic based decision. Ultimately, it looks like Allen is a smart move. Like Lanky suggests, it could take a little time. I think maybe Snyder may be learning.

Mike - I don't know...I'm thinking no though. I mean, it obviously is a good marketing move IMO, but I think there is more substance to this since it comes with Cerrato's departure. I don't think Dan would get rid of his BFF solely to go with the market move...I think he could only do this after much planning and decision-making about the future of the organization. I'm thinking he finally figured out that we were never going to go anywhere with Cerrato, no legit coach or personnel person was going to come to WASH with Cerrato there still. I don't know, I just don't, deep down, think this is made only to appease the fan base....

I'll be honest, beamish, I wouldn't take a single Redskins-related word that comes out of that man's mouth seriously. He's proven to me over the years to be self-serving, not particularly bright, and willing to say just about anything he thinks will reflect well on him.

If anyone is willing to pay that shallow, inarticulate boob money to talk on the radio, shame on them for pandering to the lowest common denominator. And shame on anyone who listens to him and actually takes anything he says to heart.

So there.

Since the talks between Allen and Snyder had been ongoing leads me to believe our next coach probably dropped his name. Could be Gruden and Shanahan both said he would be good to work with. So Snyder went out and got him.

Oh, I beg to differ Lanky. We will see something concrete almost immediately and by April at the latest. That something will be "professionalism". I think the whole atmosphere will change at Ashburn.

I expect to see the following differences that should signal there is something new going on:

- Zorn will not be left hanging like Gregg Williams was last year.
- Coordinators will be hired after the head coach is hired (if there is a change in head coach) and not before the old coordinator is let go
- And then, in April, I expect real team weaknesses to be addressed in the draft rather than just "edge" positions.

Where did you find that picture of Tony Romo?

The Rooney Rule does apply to GM.

Be interesting to monitor how they finessed this one ... or at least get the back story on when they started talking to people. One has to assume they did NOT speak to any minority candidates currently under contract to other teams.

Sounds like another job for Sherm Lewis.

i know what you're saying, om, but i'd still like to hear or read about him if he chose to spill the beans. giving him a radio show platform may be too much to swallow long term, but how about an expose by wilbon/ wise or an interview at the rival radio station 106.7? anything he reveals would provide some nice fodder for this board -- i think we're discerning enough to draw our own conclusions and dissect the veracity of his statements.

of course, this could all be moot since i'm hearing danny will keep vinny the consultant around - presumably to keep him from singing. this may be further indication that he does have some juicy stories to reveal.
