Cotton Owens passed away a short time ago. Just glad he got to see being elected to the HOF last month.

A fond farewell to one of the pioneers.
 
That was great to see. A Joe Gibbs Racing team celebrating in victory lane a short time ago. Sweet.

Congrats to Joey and the Home Depot Toyota Camry team. Awesome!
 
Actually, for once, Pocono provided a lot of good racing and it is a nice change of pace. The 88, 17, 20, 48, and 11 were the best cars overall and any one of them had a realistic shot today. Crew chiefs had to make tough calls toward the last segment of the race and that just added to the fun. Speeding violations on pit road was, well, interesting to say the least.

On to Michigan - another newly paved surface this coming week. The Fords will probably be the cars to beat in this race. The 48 team continues to be on a mission and could get number six this year. The 17 may have something to say about it - they look very good. It is just a matter of time until the 88 visits victory lane. The 5 team had the bad luck bug bite them again this week. Seems like the 99 continues to be shell-shocked from last season. Kurt is hanging by a thread - will he finally get it?

Gonna be a hot summer! :)
 
I think you missed a story line in the race BB, Hamlin ran out of gas mid-way through the race and squeaked his way back to a top 5 finish. JGR!!!
 
Well, his engine blew. Umm... wasn't there 2 JGR teams in the race last year...and the year before that since going to Toyota?
 
One of the titles was in a Pontiac.

Chevy has been in NASCAR for more than sixty years. Toyota has been in Sprinto Cup for less than five years. Let's compare notes in about twenty years or so.

I like that Bronco - you have some nice pics of it. Those things last forever.
 
Found out why Kyle had two engines go in the last two races. They were experimenting with a much higher gear ratio. The RPMs were a bit too high, so that ends the experiment. :)

Dale, Jr. was shaky in his post race interview. Some crazed fan wanted an autograph and the PR person was holding him back and things got a bit dicey. It rattled Jr. a bit. Understandable under the circumstances. Fans need to know their boundaries.

Joey's win seems to be a very popular one in the racing world and the garage. He came in with a lot of expectations, but was probably put in a Cup car too quickly. Coach had no other choice at the time, but it is nice to see Joey winning and making the turn in his career.

Got a little tidbit for you El - and others. JGR could add a fourth team next year. It will depend on two things - getting sponsors of course and securing a good driver. No, it is not Kurt. Don't be surprised (again, depending on sponsors) if Ryan Newman is in a JGR car next year.
 
Here is a video from last week at Pocono. A groundhog made it on to the track during practice and was able to avoid a couple of oncoming cars. However, the next car came along and...

I've been to Pocono many times and I can't remember all of the wildlife that has been in and around the track (including the infield). Deer, groundhogs, squirrels, rabbits, and one black bear. The bear was spotted about two miles from the raceway on a Friday as we were heading to see practice and qualifying.

And yes, it is true. A chicken brought out a caution in the early 1990s. Watching the crew trying to catch it was priceless.
 
The test session at Michigan is posting some incredible speeds. Laps by a number of cars have topped 200 - not just in the straights, but the entire lap. Several cars are hitting 217-218 in the straights.
 
Many drivers topped 201 mph including Logano and Hamlin. Biffle clocked in at more than 204. Qual record will fall tomorrow for sure.

Yes, new surface. Speeds are wicked fast. It will be interesting to see when the other grooves come into play during the race and if there are going to be any other preferred marks to hit.

Joey is doing great, but he was rushed back in '09. JGR had no other choice though. Hoping he continues to do well - really like this kid a lot.
 
So with the Jets drying that new surface in Michigan as I write this, is it going to make the track even faster than it has been running all week? This is going to be an interesting race!
 
I'm not a big Dale Jr fan, but I am glad to see him win. He is a good guy. The excitement from his win shows the loyalty NASCAR fans have.

They still love and or respect his father. This is a feel good win and just as important to NASCAR as it was Dale Jr.
