Official Game Thread - Week 7 2021- Washington @ Green Bay

Why would you throw for it on third and fourth down if you thought it was two down territory?

Not once, not twice, but three times. Turner thinks he is smarter than the game itself. Gibson is getting three yards per just falling forward and you don't do it once on four down territory?

He's gotta go. Any defense for him now is just Stockholm syndrome and fear to move on. He's a failure and has been since he got here. We have one opening drive TD in two seasons. That's around 48 opening drives. He's a bum.

Pretty sure Turner would kill a baby eagle if he had the chance. Dude is quite horrible at playcalling to situational awareness.

So how did Collins do at his new position?

The defensive line has earned all of the criticism that it has received so far this season…but today wasn’t that.

Stout against the run and working as a unit on the pass rush.

I remember one specific play where this was true. Young and Ioannidis did a twist where Young went inside and Ioannidis went outside. Young took both the tackle and the guard and pushed them inside. Him occupying both lineman allowed Ioannidis to run around free and chase Rodgers in the end zone and he had to throw it away. Young has received a lot of criticism so far this year and rightfully so, but this was good job of him playing team defense. Playing the role that gets him no recognition so his teammate could succeed.

“Minus 4 or 5 critical mistakes/failures, this was a competitive game” should be the title of our new fight song.

I hear you Henry - but as you mentioned in the other thread, there were some posiitives. What else have we got at this point?

The compete level we saw today out of the team was what I was hoping we would have seen earlier in the year vs. some of our tougher opponents such as Buffalo and New Orleans. Those lessons could have paid dividends on a day like today in Green Bay where a few plays made all the difference.

While we arguably played our most complete game, we did what bad teams are experts at - shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly. I am hoping that some of the positives from today will give this team the belief needed to steal a game vs. either Tampa or Seattle. We need to go 7-3 at a minimum in our final 10 to even think of sniffing the playoffs. Can it be done? I am not sure. What I do know is that today was a painful step in the right direction towards that goal, not a step backwards.

Turner wasn't horrible today. Unfortunately, I thought he was bad though in the most critical of moments (kind of like some of the guys who actually were on the field).

Two particular sequences stood out. The first where we elected to go for it on 4th down and 3 before halftime in a 7-7 game in field goal range. If you are thinking it is 2 down territory, why not at least try a run on 3rd down? Or at the very least, have an RB in the backfield on 3rd down - he went empty. By passing there and throwing an incompletion, you have eliminated any element of surprise for what we might do on 4th down. It was the same deal on the Heinicke sneak at the goal line. No running back in the backfield. The Packers were waiting for the QB keeper. Too much telegraphing going on in key moments.

For the QB sneak, during the Bucs game today, Romo was talking about how Brady will line up in that situation with an RB in the backfield. If the defense is crowding the center, then he gives it to the back to run outside. Brady is the GOAT and he is one of the best at the QB sneak. And it really is that simple. Put a back in the backfield and make the call based on the defensive alignment.

Turner wasn't great, but this loss isn't 100% on him. Heinicke threw an INT in the endzone, and went down a half yard short. McLaurin dropped a ball in the endzone he probably catches 97 times out of 100.

There were moments of frustration, as there tend to be with Turner, but plays were there to be made. The defense played well enought today, and it appears that the D-line is waking up. I have a hard time not looking for the positives, because I want to believe in the team.. it's almost a curse.

If we could find a way to have today's defense play with the offense from the first 3 games of the year.. we may have something.

The one positive I really got out of this game was the team didn't give up, after Taylor's short slide and then whiff to get into the end zone on a sneak (not sure he didn't get in but is what it is) this team could've easily folded but stayed competitive. It's a loss to build on, now to see if it translates into next week against Denver which is a game we can and need to win.

Seems one key for the defense to improve is limit Collins snap count while increasing J. Davis’s

I seem to recall that last season Young played RDE primarily, Sweat LDE primarily, and occasionally they would switch.

This season it seems reversed.

Am I mistaken?

I'm seeing the same thing Chris. Maybe it's because Kerrigan is gone. Maybe we underestimated his worth on the right side?

Mike I knew that would tickle your Kerrigan, for what money he left for, I'll concur, he should still be here

Yep. His leadership, professionalism, and motor were something everyone emulated here. It kept them all pushing forward and hitting hard.
